View Full Version : Door/speaker rattle with bass

Ever since I got the car ( had 70k miles), when I turned the radio up, even a little, and some bass hit, THIS area rattled just enough to be annoying. It's it on both the driver's and passenger's side.

When I touch it with my finger, even lightly, the rattle goes away. I took the door panel off, make sure the electrical clips for the heater and seat were tight. The "carbon fiber looking" molding is doing the shakes. It's hollow and sealed so maybe a small hole can be drilled from the back and the cavity filled with some kind of acoustic foam spray my installer suggested. He tried to see what was up and came up with nothing but the foam idea.

I do have several rolls of Dynamat which I plan on installing all around so maybe that will absorb enough so the panel doesn't rattle, but I'll have to see.

I'm grasping at straws here. Anyone else have the same thing?

I don't have a system yet to rattle anything. I was thinking of going with dynamat but I can get a 100 sq ft roll of (either fatmat or b-quiet) for the same price of Dynamats trunk kit.

It may or may not help, have you ever used Dynamat before and know how to properly apply on a door?

There is no 'system' to speak of, before or now. It was ratting with stock speakers and head unit. I did upgrade the head unit to the 'fancy' stock one with the disk changer, and put in some low end speakers (little better than stock), and it still rattles. Maybe more now that the speakers have a bit more range.

Yes I have dealt extensively with dynamat but will probably have my audio guy do it because it's too damn cold out for me to be doing that kind of work in my driveway.

So it started to rattle after the aftermarket front speakers were put in? I'd pull the door panel off and make sure everything is tight.

I used to hate having to install dynamat whenever it was 60 or below. Hot summers days made it great, throw the sheets out on the ground for a few hours and get them really hot and soft and would make it a breeze to do any vehicle.

I went with a 5.25" component system up front and just made a 6x8 template to mount the woofer on running off the Audiophile HU for now, going to be installing an amp here in the next few weeks.

I've got a system, replaced front speakers but don't have any lows going to any interior speakers so nothing rattles. You can have the whole door dynamat'd or you can just use a small amount yourself on the backside of the door panel where u hear the rattle.

Stock speakers in Phoebe and slightly upgraded Infinity speakers in The Blackbird. Stock head unit in both. No rattles in either.

No. The rattle was there with the STOCK speakers and head unit immediately after I drove off the stealership lot. It got a little worse when the new (cheap) speakers and better head unit were in. It also get's worse when the car warms up inside. Yes, everything is tight. I know what I'm doing. ;)

At this time I do not want to sink money into a component system. Eventually yes, but not at the moment.

I'm going to have my audio guy dynamat the doors, panels, etc. I have rolls and rolls of it in my office from previous car installs. If that doesn't do it, I have no idea.

Can also try some carpet foam and apply it to the inside of the door panel itself. I've had to do that on some installs in the past.

I am not sure you will ever get rid of it until you put in a good sub for all of your lows and high pass filters on all of the interior speakers.

That's the plan soon enough. My audio guy told me about this, yet to be released and relatively inexpensive, cool little sub that will fit nicely in the rear deck next to the spare tire. Totally enclosed unit, amp and all. The old sub amp will need to come out since it will take up nearly all of that space.

Eventually I'll go to components and do it right, but for now I have too many other expenses with other (non Marauder related) car projects.

Thanks for the help everyone even though my baby seems to be the odd ducking that fits one of the FORD acronyms: Find Annoying Rattles Daily.
