After seeing a few members here made the plunge I couldn't resist. I purchased a spare set just for this project for a rather cheap fee from a member on the forum. I went with the H1 Morimoto Projectors with the E46 Extended Shrouds and the final touch the ANGEL EYES effect like on BMW's, I always was envy of a BMW at dusk with there parking lamps on. Lightwerks does fantastic work and provided me with excellent customer service as well as communication by email of everything step and process. Was it cheap NOPE! But you get what you pay for. And I like high quality. Check out a few before and after pictures and check the link out for the full write up. My lights are being shipped tomorrow. http://img.tapatalk.com/a6937609-9411-0cee.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/a6937609-9420-7f00.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/a6937609-9435-e6ca.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/a6937609-944c-a761.jpg

The full Morimoto kit is 300 with ALL the components. They basically self install through the back where the old light bulb used to go through, then you screw a nut over the piece sticking out. How much did they charge you for this?

You can get the full morimoto kit for 270 with free shipping if you use the code TRS34, says on the page but I think thats what it is. I believe lightwerkz is about 6-700 bucks, but it depends on what you get, MH1's will be cheaper then FX-R's.

Here is the set a friend built for my car with MH1's, and it only cost 100 for labor

What is the going rate for this mod?

For the intro level kit (Morimoto H1) it's $270 for ALL the parts. If you can install yourself which is basically easy as changing a light bulb, no fee. To have a company make it for you, like $7-1100.

Something like that. They only gave me a range.

It seems to be much more involved. A manufacturing process.
remove light
Take off front plate.
paint?
Mount projector.
angel eyes?
chrome fairing?
wire up stock connector.
seal lens.
reinstall light.

Personally I'd want it all blacked out.

I think it looks so different on the car because it matches the shape of the fog lights. The stock headlights look nice on their own but match nothing. Fog lights should have been rectangular and maybe even mirrored...

...or projectors should have come stock.

Don't let them fool you. The process is VERy easy with the Morimoto's. Now, if you're using an FX projector, it's difficult. But the Morimoto's were designed to basically plug and play. Google the process.

Take the lenses off with heat gun.
Remove old light bulb reflector.
Put the Projector through the old light bulb hole.
Secure with nut.
Re-seal lense with OEM glue (can't remember the name).
Re install the headlight unit.

Wire HID ballasts as you would with anyother kit.

If you want to paint the inside (which I will be doing) use auto paint. I have some already from my S-55 tail light treatment.
Angel eyes are easy too, just install ring aroung the projector shroud and pull the wires through the back and wire them into the parking lights or headlights.

It's SUPER easy.

.

I would NOT recommend re-sealing the headlights until you've gotten the correct alignment and aim. sealing up the lights should be the VERY VERY VERY last thing as you don't want to have to re-open after putting fresh butyl glue back in the channel.

Two questions about the Morimotos...

Can you paint with spray cans, or does it have to be a spray paint gun to look good? Seems at that scale it would come nice even with a can, but what do I know.

Does the Morimotos projector assembly come apart so you can paint the chrome housing black as well?

Thanks.

I just received these today and I'll be installing them when I get back home and i'll post up pics. I don't like to cheap out on my Marauder IMHO. I want top quality PERIOD.....Don't get it wrong I do a lot of my own work but something like this I rather let a pro who does this daily to do mine.

Just picture and new Mercedes, Bmw, Infiniti, Lexus, Audi, etc. and it is AS GOOD as those are, except ours obviously don't turn witht he steering wheel or auto set when started up. What are the differances between the Morimoto Bi mini H1 4.1 and the Morimoto Bi D2S 2.0 ?

bolsen
02-13-2012, 09:11 AM
The only difference is the bulb that can be used. The H1 uses a re-based H1 bulb. H1 bulbs are ONLY AFTERMARKET bulbs.

The D2S uses a D2S bulb. D2S is the same bulb that every OEM projector uses. You can "real" Phillip's bulbs and the like. As far as performance, not much.

That is crazy. Just do a tiny bit of research and do them yourself. Save $600. That way if something ever does go wrong, you can fix it up yourself in about an hour, as opposed to sending them across the country.

Projectors use more then just D2S

D1S / D3S is what alot of north american cars use, and I believe alot of european cars use this also. All depends on the car though

"D2S is the same bulb that every OEM projector uses" is what I was getting at. And their is more to it then the MD2S takes a D2S bulb and the MH1 has an H1. The bowls are different, and the MH1 uses a curved cutoff shield which gives it very good width. The MD2S uses a flat cutoff shield which makes it narrower. The MD2S can also handle 50W where the MH1 can not.

im not hating or anything but my hids are different looking from everybody elses, i dont have all those spots of low light, i got my kit from diodedynamics, and my HID bulb is on the outboard side of each light, with the halogen bulb on the inside.

You have HID with Halogen high beams I'm sure of. So that halogen only lights when you hit your high beam? Does that sound right?

yup yup, hids+halogens on bright flash, and halogens only with brights on

Cool. Your other option is Bi-xenon HID kit. Where the HID has a actuator that moves the HID to a higher light output. FYI

i would but diode dynamics is my only hid source too many people having problems with the other companies, so i guess ill just stick with my halogen brights:rolleyes: unless i decide to switch to projectors, hey can you post up pics of your light like in a parking lot or somthing??

You gotta be the biggest hater ever. You been hating on this thread from day one. I mean damn, go make your own projectors, don't add angel eyes, and go sit in a corner when your done.
Oh sorry for saying how I feel. Stop melting down over it, brah...

Not a fan of angel eyes. On anything but a BMW they just look "aftermarket".

With all these projectors showing up, we'll have to have a "projectors only" parking lot at Louisville!
