Well, I run about 34psi all four corners---and at 10K , all show no wear for the moment--but of course I may have to eat these words since # 7 has appeared in the garage :banana2:

34 seems to be the magic number for me too. No problems with this set, yet.

I was running 30 to 32 and tire shop said that was what was causing mine to wear in the center (Rear Tires). They said over inflation was the cause. Anyway they were well worn at about 16000. I've put the same size all the way around and running 28 to see if that helps the center wear. I don't think that it is all pressure related as I've seen anywhere from 28 to 40 being run and still the same problem. I think that the tires themselves may be causing part of the problem. The reason for the same size was so I could rotate, however I don't like the looks as well and will probably say to hell with it let them wear. If it looks like they are wearing in the center  I'll just smoke them flat.

Thanks:
Bob

35PSI all around and no unusual wear at 17,000 miles.

I was running 32 psi @ all corners and did not notice anything untill 20k mi?! Fronts are still going strong - slight wear on inside edge. By 21k mi - the rear centers were gone! New rears @ 27 psi and 23k mi on clock - not enough to really see anything yet. Not picking up any dirt or scuffing on sidewalls - wear/dirt just to corner of tread.

I run 38 in the front and 36 in back. Just replaced all four at 18k miles. I am very hard on tires. The fronts were worn on the inside, went to the allignment shop... there was like .55 toe on both sides. Reset toe to zero on both sides. Should be better. The rears were just about bald, that's my fault, however they were evenly worn.

I have 10K miles as of this morning. Noticed this past saturday the passengers rear is BALD in the middle. The drivers is not too far behind, maybe 2 or 3/32nds.

I drive the car at about 80 - 90 MPH about 70% of the time. I drive very early and later in the evening in Houston. Anyone who knows Beltway 8 knows about this type driving.

The inflation has been 32-35 and checked every week. I have to believe this is too high of a pressure.

I have done two actual tire smokings in the car (what's the point of having the car otherwise). The rest have been in stop and go, WOT runs up to 90, and the rest living at the 80-90 MPH range.

So, any hints. Having to buy three sets of tires a year is going to get too expensive for the wife. It will hurt the mod budget. Must find liveable solution. Help me....for the love of god...

I read the previous tire thread and at 4500 mi I was running 32 psi all the way around. I took the car in to my front end specialist and he said it was in spec but it was going to cause the fronts to wear out on the insides early. Ford predominantly sets there performance cars up this way. We discussed it and then I had it realigned and now run 32 psi Fr and 28 psi Rr. I now have about 7000 mi and the fronts have leveled out and the wear pattern is good.

I strongly recvommend you have your alignment check by a competant high performance alignment shop and you will be happy with the results.

Only time will tell if this was a wise purchase or not --- but my dealer had a $199 option called "tires for life" Will replace tires after they reach 3/32" tread depth, as long as I own the car.
The hitch? All service , per recommended schedules , must be done at that dealership, one alignment per year, and tire rotation ( side to side) every 6,000 miles.
Dealer does 35 # front and rear.

I like tires for life, any disclaimers about owner abuse? If not, wow! I do the side to side myself, as it seems to be the only way to get the wheels really clean is to remove them.

Yes there are disclaimers --- this is just normal wear -- any accident damage, vandalisum etc. ,uneven wear because of misalignment etc.

So how much do they charge for the alignment and rotation? If it's reasonable that sounds like a good deal. Especially when the car has enough mods to eat up rear tires.

Interesting - the doorplate sticker for my 2004 indicates a suggested tire pressure of 35psi. However, I just saw a posting for a 2003 Marauder on Ebay and the picture of that cars doorplate sticker indicated 32 PSI.

Hmm... Maybe Mercury recognized that people were having abnormal wear and changed the suggested #'s?
