Well the insurance co officially totaled my Black 04 MM yesterday,
Wasn't my fault, the place who worked on the car, f--'d up the rear, and Im not gonna get into the whole story....

See post 14 for whole story of my dads marauder.

Im looking to get another 03-04 MM in Black or Silver with low miles.

Its a shame, my 04mm was my dads, when he passed away...

so, not seeing it in the garage, is really starting to eat at me.

Im very well aware of that... If I had a place to put it, and the time to take her apart, Im still not sure I would.
As this car belonged to my dad when he passed.

I think it would have hurt more to see it in this shape constantly....

thats all they gave me.

112k miles and the car is 8 years old, and was rear ended by a dumptruck at 4k miles.

the worst part, is the car just got 6k in drivetrain work done...

well, the story of this mm starts at 4k miles of ownership, where it was rearended by a dump truck.

since the car was brand new at the time of the accident, it was fixed.
a new back half was found, and welded in. Don't really know as there was never much documentation that I could find in reguards to the drivetrain being damaged...

but, some 45k miles later, the rear started to develop a whining noise, at certain speed/ rpms, my dad took it to a mechanical/ body shop.
Somthing was happening in the diff where the ring gear had flat spots in the teeth. somthing was def wrong there... So, the tech, (only reason I remember what he said to my dad was because I over heard them on the phone) "Told my dad that these rears where known to develop problems, and that ford makes an upgraded diff for the car." Sounds great.

some 30k miles later, the same type of noise is back.

So he takes it to a place (email for the name) that specializes in modifying/ and maintaining Fords.
Well, they take the diff cover off, and the previous guy had installed used parts from a mustang that had been sitting in his back parts lot......

My dad was told that the guy who did the work, simply screwed around with the backlash, until they got the noise to disapear... the ring gear still had the flat spots!
well, after arguing and reasoning with the previous shop, he gave up. He asked this shop, is the rear worth replacing as a whole, or can you fix it?

"Oh we can fix it no problem" was the response.....
so, after R&R the entire rear, bearings and all, setting the backlash to the factory specs.
Got the car back and the whining was still there, but at a different speed.
the guy went through 3 gear sets, and my dad, paying for each to be r&r'd
along with the diff fluids and modifyers to be added each time.
and after each install and every time it was driven, the rear whined at different speeds...

Now the driveshaft was found to be creating a vibration. Thats not why the car came in (there was no vibration I drove the car several times), he put some type of lazer on the driveshaft and turned it, marking the spots out of round... My dad gave the ok for the driveshaft to be replaced...
The driveshaft was from Driveshaftshop.com and is aluminum... and was not cheap. This whole time the car is being looked at and disected and what not, my dad is paying for the time and resources.... after everything is said and done, theres no change in the way the car drives, still makes the same whinning noise, the shop owner told my dad, the gears need to wear in...
so he drives it to work for a little bit....

Now the both the right and left side make a grumbling noise when at low speeds making a turn while litely accelerating or maintaining speed... they can't find a problem after disassembling the entire rear and pulling the axles... so they replaced everything again. As with before, my dad footing the bill for everything.
(We found out after the fact that he sold a few of the gear sets that where in my dads car, to people with mustangs as an upgrade)

So he keeps driving it, until one day he goes to make a slow right handed turn, and barely nudges the gas pedal to go around the corner and the rear of the car shoots out to the left hard!. This happend to him 3 times he recorded. He told the shop owner, and had it taken in, no problem was found, and the common excuse was given that it wont do it for any of us and was deemed to be intermittent..... With each occurance, there was no traction control light on the instrument cluster, nor were there any stored codes. Had one of the techs go into the ecu to see if the tcs was disabled and it wasn't.

The car was taken back and forth to the shop by my dad, with each occurance. Each time, same result.

Now, my dad passed away, and after the car sitting the better part of a year, I take it out, wash it and wax it, and put some fresh gas in it, and go to take it to work to get it inspected as it was due.

I go to overtake someone doing 45mph in a 55 on rt 95s in the right lane, as I pull out to pass I didnt't floor it, infact I barely touched the gas pedal, and suddenly Im going sideways facing the car I was attempting to pass, and I wasn't even doing more than the speed limit. The speedo said 50!
I attempted to recover control but ran out of road, as I was already in the left lane and about to go under a bridge on what appeared to be a very long curved section of roadway.

the left rear corner of the bumper/ quarter panel caught the very end of the guard rail, which whipped the car around and slammed it up against these stainless steel braided 3 wire sort of chainlink fence looking divider thats about 3 feet from the road in the center meedean... that thing blew out the glass in the pass front window. Bent and buckled the hood, crumpled the trunk, Crinkled and ruined the whole pass side of the car, blew out the rear windsheild, completely destroyed the front windsheild, ripped the grille off, bumper supports, head lights, mirrors, destroyed the front end of the car, and even split open some of the wires in what appeared to be a wire harness that runs behind the driverside headlight....

then, its towed......

Im left with 2 broken ribs, bruised left knee, an empty garage bay and memory of my dads Marauder..... ;(
