View Full Version : A visit to the local Ford Dealer...

Was looking for a piece that I have no clue what it does. Its a white plastic box 2.5'x1.5 or so (Marauder labeled across it)with a hose that connects to the air ride compressor and mounts to the car. Mine is showing cracks and looks to be a cheap piece to replace thinking less than $10. So while I was out and about I visit the local dealer. Well this little plastic piece lists for $74:eek: it is no longer sold and as far as I can tell serves no other purpose that to keep the hose in its place.
On a side note as I drove up a bunch of the sales guys where admiring the Marauder and a son and his dad walk by and also take notice (look a Marauder) with the dad saying you dont see those anymore...I also missed another Marauder owner as the parts guy says he just came in. Looks like the other guy is restoring his based on the the description; pretty much buying parts for his every week. I am gonna have to look out for him. Anyhow I give the sales guys a little taste of the BOSS and crack the throttle as I fire it up and accelerate moderately as I leave. The next day I take my daughter to the dealer as she is in the market for a car (Fiesta) the sales person immediately recognizes the Marauder and gives lots of compliments and how beastly she sounds:D
Ah the pain and joys of owning a specialty car...

Yeah, thats probably me Dorance and Steve are talking about from the parts department. I'm usually there looking up parts and parts numbers for both my cars. I usually just email them and show up if they have some leads. Trying to take car of the annoying little things that wear easy but unfortunately lots of them no longer available.

Ah ok a sound suppressor box for the air compressor Thanks.Correct.
If it's cracked, just use some epoxy...super glue...RTV...duck tape :D ...it's not a critical part.

The Tracy dealer? Why not the Livermore dealer?
Correct.

Some super glue will do:D Its slightly cracking on the end; yes not critical but since I noticed it was one of those "ah replace it should be a couple buck right moments"?

It's mounted just inside of the radiator support, right in front of the airbox.

these are all over in the yards with CVs. i have absolutely no clue why these are white and say marauder on them as opposed to the standard black un marked one found on all other panthers.
im still not sure what real effect it even has, there is nothing inside of it, its just a box. how a box connected to a tube "quiets" the air compressor is beyond me.

I see it is of no real use. Some auto engineer with a slide ruler & shirt pocket pen pouch had to much free time.

Maybe it keeps water out of the compressor?

Is the tube connected to the intake 'port' or vent port of the compressor? Don't forget that the air compressor also has a vent solenoid built into it.
If the white box is on the vent port, it probably muffles what would otherwise sound like air hissing from somewhere - a sound that can be heard just after parking the car and walking out to the front of it. I would hazard a guess that Ford put it there to reduce reports of 'air hissing from under hood'.
If it's on the intake port, it'd have the same effect as the stock air intake box (compared to an open-element filter). But I'd be surprised if anyone could hear that noise next to the sound of a running DOHC v8.

[QUOTE=dohc324ci;1150074]The Tracy dealer? Why not the Livermore dealer?
Well, on the invoice from Ford dealerships parts department, I've always noticed they always list two prices for each item (sometimes the prices are the same). However, I've noticed that when you frequent a specific dealerships parts department, they eventually give you a lower price in one of those two columns. List price and net price. Like a preferred customer is the lower net price otherwise it lists the same price? The Livermore auto group still charges me the higher price so I still frequent the Tracy Ford parts guys instead. And I'm over there a lot anyway visiting my sister and neices and nephew.
Also, from past experience, I used to go to Capital City Ford parts dept in Indianapolis. Those guys that used to work there hated when Joe Schmoe walked in asking for random part numbers or availability and them having to look something up for you, etc.
So finding a parts guy that is helpful is a big plus for me.

im pretty certain its on the intake side of things. i thought the bags deflated at the bags them selves?

i thought the bags deflated at the bags them selves? No, there a solenoid on the compressor assembly for the vent function.
