I am testing the waters right now and seeing if there might be any interest for my 1968 Mercury Cougar.

There is no motor or trans and the interior is pretty much gutted. I have most of the interior parts though (seats, carpet, headliner, dash etc). It would be a perfect project car for someone if you have an engine or trans lying around and want to dump it in something.

The body is fairly decent (some rust in the quarters and a tiny bit on drivers side floorboard) however it's still solid and has all the chrome, taillights, headlights (the quintessential Cougar hideaway headlights)

There is a long story/history behind this car (I've had it since I was 15) and i don't feel the need to go into detail here. Let me know if you are interested, send me a PM and I can provide pictures and information. I live in Virginia so obviously a local pick up would be nice. I don't know if it's worth shipping, however I am open.

Thanks for looking

For any interested party: I have the corect 302 cid 4bbl engine out of my '68 XR 7 for this ^^^ - the first car I ever bought.
If I had the time and $$$ I would snap this car up but I don't.

I will give this motor to anyone interested in putting it back into Mebot's project car (Mebot can have it if he decides to keep it!)

Love the Cougar discussion. I just got a 69 XR7 S code 4 speed vert last summer. Took it out yesterday with the top down.

Good luck

Wow Krytin I would love to see a picture your XR7. Do you still have it?

I definitely want to keep your engine in mind. I had a 351W (from a 77 Tbird) in the car and C4 3 speed automatic transmission. I am not anxious in keeping the numbers correct, but I figure i would keep my eyes open for 289, 302 or 351 for cheap if I can. I mentioned in the original post that I am testing the waters right now and your engine is a viable option for me.

Let's keep this conversation open. I do have to get a couple of items I need to take care of first, before I say yay or nay, but thanks so much for your post and I will be in touch!

V/r,

Ryan

All I have left is the motor - the car passed on in '81.
I'll see if I still have any photos - pre-digital back then!
I've been moving/storing this motor in my garage since '81. It isn't going anywhere fast and if it get's a chance to go back into a '68 Cougar where it belongs I'll do what I can to make it happen!

I would love to give it a good home, but like I said there are several factors I need to figure out. 1) where am I going to put the engine for the time being? 2) I need to make a decision and be completely realistic: do I want to take this rebuilding challenge on? It's a lot of time, effort and money so I don't want to be chasing pipe dreams. I need the parts, labor, know how, etc to make this work. I don't want to say yes i want your engine just for it to sit for 8 or 9 yrs. I want to be 100% committed to this project

That being said, will you by any chance be going to the 2012 Carlisle All Ford Nationals this year? We might be able to meet up there since that might be halfway for both of us. I was thinking about towing my Cougar up to Carlisle to see if I can sell it. I have a lot of different options I am working with right now, so again I appreciate the generosity!

BTW, you say it's the motor only, so no carburetor? pulleys, ignition coil? Starter, timing cover, distributor? Do you have exhaust/intake manifolds? sorry for a million questions but just want to get my head around on what you have.

Thanks a ton!

That is the plan so far.

BTW, you say it's the motor only, so no carburetor?

Two Holley's in desperate need of a rebuild!

pulleys, ignition coil? Starter, timing cover, distributor?

Pulleys, Accel Dual point distributor/Super Coil, Chrome alternator, timing cover, water pump and starter are there. Valve covers are finned aluminum "Cobra Powered by Ford".

Do you have exhaust/intake manifolds?

Did not save any exhaust parts - the headers went into a '72 Torino Wagon that I had!

sorry for a million questions but just want to get my head around on what you have.

Thanks a ton!

I'm not sure I would be able to bring all of this in the trunk to Carlisle.

Also be aware that this stuff has been collecting dust for the last 30 years! It's not abused in anyway but it does need to be cleaned-up and I would give odds that the seals are all pretty much shot!

No one has showed any interest in this stuff and you have first right of refusal extended out for a good long while!

I appreciate all the info man. I have some interest from Hambon above for the car and I'm also working some other leads here in town. I will keep you in touch on the process and let you know.
