I got a lecture that carried over from last year from Mrs Bradley G. , Who thinks my drag racing 120,000 mile daily Driver Mercury Marauder, is plain stupid.
I never claimed to have good sense
Time to rein in on my GLD count down thread

Quite the opposite my friend. :banana2:

Most cars are ready for the boneyard @120k. Ours are just getting warmed up!

To answer your question...

Pretending we could go back 20 years and race our daily driver nine year old big 3 car, not to mention a modded one, yes stupid.

Most cars built in the last decade, nope. They tend to stand up to punishment quite a bit better now IMO.

No matter the car, its always a risk anyways.

Mikey, are we there yet???

With 150,000+ miles plus I am even stupider!

The best retort is "say it again and I will get smart by buying a low mileage Marauder to drag race".

Is it stupid for me to want to put a s/c on a 133k car? I don't think so.;)

Not exactly a DD but I've put around 700 drag strip passes on a Trick Flow headed 5.0 in a '88 T-Bird, always driven to the track, sometimes as far as 95mi... Only had to drag it home once, when the fuel pump failed as I turned into the strip entrance, didn't even get to race that night...

BTW the Bird is within a couple tenths as quick as the Marauder, quicker when I was sprayin'...

170k mi + here and I will be hitting the local track this spring because I think I have finally sorted out my tune and I want to take the lead back from Paul.

Get the aluminator on order and have it sitting in your garage for if/when it ever does go. Then you can say - "but I have a brand new engine for it in case...!"

Actually I mentioned to her that I made a thread and several of the members stood by my side.
She said she was sorry for the comment and all the negativity, she has shadowed on my parade.
I know it is risky but some things are hard for me to resist

Racing a DD is just a good excuse to upgrade the motor in a 120k mile car?? If it brakes just put it back together bigger and better than before. Or you could drive one of these new throw away cars.... No Thanks

I hear ya on the rebuild what ever breaks ,... Better!
I would be scrambling if I ate a motor or trans but not enough to curb my urge.

i think of it like this... We only live once so why not. My DD is not a Marauder but its a 640hp Crown Vic that i drive Everywhere and Race it every chance i get at the track. i now have 60k miles since i turbo'ed the car.

60+ miles a day

I split my mileage between my MM and 03 Mach 1, drag race them both depending on my mood, broken parts and what my friends are bringing to the track. I bought a 93 Mark VIII a couple years ago to use for DD but never drive the thing, it's just too boring. I don't think I'll ever be able to drive a "normal" car daily anymore.
