View Full Version : MY DTR Toughed It Out With Some Minor Damage

The recent weather conditions today have spawned many tornadoes in several states and is not over yet.
Breezy right now, and more headed this way.
Left the office early today, picked up my daughter Caitlin and afterwards, packed up some overnight gear and headed to Charlotte's.
My place lost power, and is still out with no ETA from the power company on restoration.
On the way out to Charlotte's, she told me over the phone, that it hailed for approx. 5 minutes, and caused many tears in the cover on my Marauder.
:(
I told her to STFU, and she quickly replied that she wasn't kidding!
Unsure of any damage, as she looked and felt over the body panels, she could not give me a definitive answer.
I was hauling ass to get over there due to tornadoes being all around us. Caitlin was scared to death and trying to calm her down while driving thru a torrential downpour and heavy winds.
We finally arrived at Charlottes, and the rain and wind had calmed down by this time.
The cover on the MM had anywhere from 10 - 20 tears/rips in it.
I uncovered the Marauder, and moved it into the garage as quickly as possible.
Damn, that car toughed it out! But not without some damage.
:(
Two large dents in the hood, and smaller ones on both quarter panels.
The car had dirt on it, and still wet from the rain, so it's hard to tell if any other damge is there.
I cannot see anything on the roof, (thank God) and the dents I found are on flat areas and easily fixable.
The dents visible, are approx. the size of a quarter, and smaller in size.
Well, shat!
Here's what caused the damge...

So far so good Chris!
Wind is picking up and more of this crap heading our way.
You guys hunker down and be prepared, as this line of storms has already taken lives with it and is nothing to mess around with!
Be safe and keep us posted.

OK.
Power was restored at my place about an hour and a half ago, and just got back home.
Caitlin in the bath, all clocks reset and having an ice cold .
Pretty windy here, and should be good-to-go for the rest of the evening.
Death toll today is now at 18 with 76 tornadoes documented thus far.
Again, everyone hunker down that is expecting this storm in their area, and prayers go out to everyone suffering losses of loved ones and their property.
;)

Darn Mike ... those are some pretty big chunks of ice. Sorry to hear about your damage. :( The cover may have absorbed some of the possible hits and minimized the problems. Looking at the news reports from some of those areas, I think some dents and dings may be one of the better outcomes of this set of storms. Might have been much worse. 14 dead in Indiana, 14 in Kentucky, and 3 in Ohio. Major destruction. Glad you and your daughter are OK.
Find yourself a good paintless dent removal guy. Invaluable... removed about 30 dents from my MM last summer. As good as new.
Glad all is safe, our bodies wouldn't have fared as well...
I had the same thing happen here got about 10 dents across the hood and roof before the adjuster comes out can anyone give me an indication how much that will take to fix? Same exact size hail here as well, I even had my cover on it just wasn't thick enough...

OK.
Detailed the MM today and counted rougly 9 dents that need to be addressed.
The 2 largest ones are on the hood with a 3rd small one as well.
One dent on the roof (very small), 1 on the trunk just right of the emblem, 1 on the driver side quarter panel inches away from the tail light and 3 small ones on the passenger side quarter panel.
Very lucky that it wasn't any worse considering the size of the hail stones dropping out of the sky.
A few crappy cell phone pics...

Those hail stones look like the ones from the NY hailstorm a 7 months ago. Got a freaked out feeling and took the MM out for a cruise in the right direction. Every car in the neighborhood destroyed. Very Lucky.
I am totally serious when I say this, how about a padded car cover? Heavy duty bubble wrap or foam taped or sewed between two covers.
I've been considering a driveway awning but it's gunna look pretty ugly IMO.
