Removed the rear cats today. I hadn't expected much difference in sound. I was positively surprised! I like it! Everything else is stock.

Here's the video.

Okay, let's see if the video works.

As expected, no "check engine" light issues. The sensors are still connected at the original location. The rear cats were on the downstream side of the sensors.

As long as the sensors are unplugged you will not get a CEL from removing the rear cats.

Sounds pretty good actually.

Thanks Ctrlraven. I am not sure I understand what you mean by "unplugged" though. The sensors were never touched and are still connected. I never got a check engine light.

I meant exactly that the sensors unplugged. lol Some people take the whole downtube off to cut the cats while others just cut the cat off while the downtubes are still on the car. If the downtubes are removed then the O2 sensors have to be unplugged.

DTRmiguel has his setup like this, nice little tone it has.

I have done this and love the tone, sounds close to a friends s55 amg. Classy and throaty. If you have a tuner and turn of your rear 02s it will negate the cel as well, saves some dirt under the fingernails.

I've been trying to get the same done but no where in Cleveland, Ohio I've called so far will do it. They keep telling me that removing cats is illegal I told them I understood but I wasn't removing them all just the 2 rears, they still said no.

Sounds nice. If only California would allow us to do that ...

Most states are fairly strict on it. The way around it all is to cut them off yourself or have a friend do it then take it to a shop and have them weld in a piece of pipe. A lot of shops around here don't care if the vehicle comes in without them, but if they are removing any they have to replace with the same number they take off before it can leave their shop.

@ctrlraven, I think I'm just going to add some magnaflows and revisit the rear delete later

As long as you have two cats, your car is legal to YOU, but it is a federal offense for a muffler shop to touch your catalysts unless it is to replace the catalyst with a new one. Thats it.

Some shops will fit pipes, some wont. I luckily had a friend with a welder who hooked me up. I dont know Californias crazy laws, but Federal and State Law most places states that it is not illegal to run without a catalyst, just will not pass inspection.
