I'm considering changing to 3.08 gears on my trilogy dd when my rear is rebuilt, i drive over 100 miles a day and could use all the help i could get with fuel mileage. I'm not worried about the performance loss at all.
What could I expect to gain mileage wise?
Do I need to immediately have the car tuned or could I get away with my current tune for a few weeks?

Not sure what you'll gain in mileage and I would def get a 3.08 gear tune for it
Why a 3.08? Why not a 2.83 if you are really trying to maximize your mpg.
If you drive that much, a get around car like a Civic might be a better choice. A few people I know have picked up some decent ones 94-98 yr range and are getting mid to high 30's with just adding some fresh maintenance items.

I didn't see 2.83s in the ford racing catalog. My boss would prefer that I drive an american made car and I wouldn't think of driving anything besides a Marauder. I'm just trying to maximize my mileage and since the rear is being rebuilt anyway, I thought it was worth asking the question.

I dunno I got 27mpg highway after the Trilogy was installed with stock gears. 2000rpm when cruising. Can't seem to replicate it though, foot keeps getting stuck.

You should be able to get desent gas mileage with 3.55's, but you can increase gas mileage with 4.10's @ 2,000 RPM, it'll just take you longer to get where you going. The key to gas mileage is brick under gas peddle.

There's a reason Ford hasn't offered a 3.08 axle in the Panther platform for years...has to do with driveline resonance. I don't know the details, but I wouldn't do it without a LOT of research.

elaborating....You can get better gas mileage out of 4.10 if you keep the RPM's @ 2000 in top gear. Now you won't get to where you're going all that fast but you'll get there with more gas in your tank.

stockers are 3.55. 2.78 would be the ring to get for mileage. You could probably do 60 in 1st gear. lol

It might be a different carrier for 2.83. I thought that I read that our carrier was good for anything from 3.0-4.30, anyone else know anything about this?

what if you drove with 3.55's at 2000rpm?
Then you'd save even more, and in my opinion it would be easier to drive 2000 RPM's with 3.55's than 4.10's. I do it every day with my CVPI sporting 3.55's, but it's really hard to keep the Marauder that slow with 4.10's. :D

Stock gears. Was going to upgrade them to 4.10s with the Trilogy but Jerry said forgetaboutit. He was right. No need.

Due to the 18" rims, the Marauder is effectively one size gear lower as compared to other Panthers. 3.27's is as low as I would be willing to go, unless you are trying to run the salt flats. And that's like having 3.08's on a Vic without the drive line harmonic.
Don't forget that even with the blower, you still have a gutless 4V at tip-in below 2k. And if its hot outside, there's still limited power because the heat that the blower makes. You don't really want to downshift every time you tip-in. Or unlocking the torque converter, which would eat your fuel economy alive as well.

I went with the 3.55s, I guess my biggest issue is keeping my foot out of it

Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.
I bought my car in Pittsburgh and drove it to Atlanta in the middle of the night in pouring rain. 65 MPH, baby soft acceleration and braking.
23.6 MPG, Trilogy car with stock rear and 3.0 upper pulley.
I have NEVER seen this again.
I am unable to keep 65 MPH. Even with cruise control i end up on the gas.
I can get maybe 21 on a tank strictly highway.
My OCD makes me check it, my foot keeps it low. And the sound of the Trilogy of course.
