View Full Version : Wheel hop / shudder in reverse

I've tried to do a bunch of searching and haven't really come up with a definitive answer or anything that fit exactly.

When reversing I get a shudder that feels like wheel hop. It seems that when on the gas there isn't any shudder or noise but then when I let off the gas it starts. It doesn't have to be fast or "spirited" reversing or anything like that, haha, just normal out of the driveway reverse.
I took it and got new tires the other day and the tech came out and was like "Damn, did you note the vibration in reverse?! I thought I had broke something!"
This is more than just a clunk and it doesn't happen when going to drive so it tells me it's not a u-joint. And I know for sure that the wheels aren't breaking loose so it's definitely not actual wheel hop.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hopefully there isn't metal in the pumpkin. Sometimes these cars like to eat axles and the metal can ruin your rear end gears etc.

Change the gear oil in the diff and see if there is any metal in it, if you've never done this or don't know when the last time was. Might be an easy place to start.

or clutches chattering, also cured by rear diff servicing
