Hi, car has ticking sound in engine? Any ideas, a mechanically inclined friend said its not a rodnock? He said small chance it is lifters and someone else said something with a camshaft? Please any ideas or details, let me know.

What's the history of the car? How have you treated the engine? Is it a 300A or B car? The early 03 marauders had a design flaw in the head, which led to a valve sticking.

Currently an aluminator engine is about $8k.

Has the car recently overheated or had cooling system issues?

Mine did the same thing couple days ago but the threads were pulled from plug and was bouncing around. Fixed that and now she's idling rough again. Mine is an early 03 btw.

Chances are it's cly 8 on the drivers side firewall. There is a dead end for coolant there. Head overheats and the lifters and linkage for that cyl get messed up.

After it's fixed get a rear head cooling kit on there so it won't happen again.

my brother purchased car for me and it had noise in engine. I dont know much about history. I was driving it on highway and right before exiting on ramp I noticed car had troubles moving, at first I thought it was transmission but now that I think about it, it felt like it lost some type of compression. There are not any check engine lights on and the light does work. Engine oil does look dark. Now it starts and may die out but sounds louder. Battery light illuminated then went away. Im hoping its not engine. Some other guys in the forums said to contact Zack in Chicago SVT. Any other ideas? I just emailed Zack and hoping he has time to call.

I think contacting Zack is an excellent idea since you're local.

Good luck getting the issue fixed.

Mine had a light ticking for the 57K miles that I put on it, never got worse, never felt low on power. Not saying it's not worth looking into though, 'cause you could be in an entirely different boat than me (especially since you mentioned the car felt kind of boggy at one point).

If it sounds like a sewing machine it may be the timing chain tensioners and guides giving way and the chain slapping around... Jus throwing it out there!
