All depends how much work has to be done.

03mmmonroe changed out mine last month, but there were so many metal shavings in the rear end that it took 2 1/2 hours just to get everything cleaned out. Plus the clutches in the limited slip were chewed up from the shavings, in total, took nearly 10 hours to get everything done.

IIRC, flat rate manual time for the axle change out is around 2 1/2, but I'd imagine that's just for changing out the axle, no extra work.

If you find lots of metal shavings the ENTIRE axle assembly will need rebuilding. The Carrier and pinion bearings will be damaged by the metal shavings and will end up wearing out.

I replaced a ground up axle in my 2001 cleaned out all the shavings but about 50K later the carrier bearings were all worn out and the carrier would move away and towards the pinion gear at least +/- 4-5 mm. I am sure even the pinion bearing was getting chewed up too.

Yeah, already planning for that. Will prolly pick up a used diff and axle unit off a CVPI with 3.55s, and swap out the entire unit when the time comes.

Labor cost is determined by the number of hours and the labor rate the shop charges.

The numbers of hours is the same...... the labor rate varies all over the country.

True, that. ^^^^

3 - 4 hours labor is going to cost you more in NYC than it is in, say Greenville, SC...
