Hi -

Among the many mods that I have on "The List" is an Oil Filter Relocation to make filter changes easier (and not get oil on the undercarriage) and to, possibly, add an FL1A.

Any recommendations?

Will the FL1A that I've seen used (forget who has this installed) add better filtration?

As always, thanks,

Mark

I got a nice kit from Summit. The name brand one, not the store brand. It comes with SS braided hoses. Part of my 241 install plan this summer. :D

Just be aware that the FL1A filter doesn't have an anti drain back valve like the FL820S.

Anti drain back doesn't matter if you mount it like this.....

Don't go cheap on the kit you use. I bought a cheap $50 kit and spent another $100 on braided hose and fittings since the hose barbs and clamps wouldn't stop leaking.

Either way, you'll be into one of these kits for about the same $$$. I started with the cheap kit, then like everything else, modded the hell out of it.:D

This is the picture that I was thinking of.

Does the FL1A offer better filtration than the "stock" filter?

Where did you get your kit?

Thanks,

Mark

I know it offers more capacity, don't know if the filtration is superior, I know that the Mobile1 equivalent to the FL1A has great filtration, as those are what I am using now.

There is a ford racing version of the fl1a that has an anti drainback valve.

Does the FL1A offer better filtration than the "stock" filter?"Better"? No. It uses the same media as the FL820S, it just has more of it for more dirt-holding capacity. Unless you are planning a very extended change interval, there's no advantage to the FL1A over the FL820S.

Thanks for weighing in on this, Bob, I'm considering this mod as well, and had the same questions.

Good stuff!

Rex -

Let me know what kit you go with - I can't find any with stainless hoses.

The Trans-Dapt kit is inexpensive but the lines they use wept a little so had some SS lines made up for about $90.00!! I would go with a kit that has SS lines to start with!!

I mounted my remote to the frame in front of the front tire!! Remember that the frame is very hard and hard to drill....so when I finally got the holes drilled I simply tapped them and used bolts to hold it.....worked out fine!!

Dont forget that some 03's have a bracket on the frame there that to be cut.

Has anyone experienced low oil pressure issues, particularly on start up, with the remote locations on our vehicles?
