Greetings to all,

As I've recently moved, I don't have a clue as to who is a trustworthy mechanic in my locale. Any 'telltale' signs that I should look for when trying to distinguish the good from the bad? I've asked my buddy where he takes his truck to get stuff done on it, but he's got a Chevy and the guy he uses mainly works on Chevys. I just want to make sure the mechanic I choose, first of all, knows what a Marauder is and how rare they are and, second of all, understands how I feel about my MM.

Not trying to say that all mechanics are crooked, idiots, etc...just want to avoid that one or two in my area.

Input/suggestions from you all would be greatly appreciated.

I would look for the guy that is building and tuning the Mustangs down in your area. Usually the better mechanics will have a heck of a following and you will see/hear of them. Now gettting in to have them do the work ........

Go on some Mustang forums and ask around for people in your surrounding area. Ask for tuners/builders and their reputations. I think that would be a good starting point.

Best option is to do the work yourself. No time like the present to learn and expand ones mind.

This is a big plus......if they dont know what a Marauder is.....dont walk but run away!!

P.S. I drive to Houston wich is about 2.5 hours away from me to have some of the bigger things done to the Marauder....like brake, rearend, a/c, and stuff like that....Oil changes and trans oil changes I just go to my local Ford SVT dealer.

Just throwing this out there: when selecting a mechanic, looks are deceiving. The shop I used to use (it's a long story...the owner committed suicide and his widow sold the business) was a hole-in-the-wall that I NEVER would have considered but for the fact that one of his employees had a Marauder and was a member here. I trusted those 2 guys to do the right thing and was rewarded with top-notch work for fair prices. Having recently had some work done at another "hole-in-the-wall" recommended by the same employee, I think I have found my new shop...

There is nothing wrong with a Shady Tree Mechanic, I've always found them to do better work for a cheaper price. That's if you can find one.

Kyle-- let me ask my daughter and son-in-law- who work there in Ashville--
but before I get anything back from them -let me throw this out---

Find the local Lincolin/ Ford /Merc/ Dealership and drop in and go directly to the service department----hang around and drop into the service bay area if you can and ask some of the techs away from their bosses. If not that then go around back of the place and go in door there and do the same--I've done that when new in a town and found alot of stuff out real quick---whats the worst they can do--ask you to stay out of the service bay--whoopee! but you can ask the fellows on the way out---amazing what you find out---

Asking who's the greatest tuner for Marauders around here and you were told to deal with Reinhart.

You hear different things from different people when it comes to having work done. There are guys in my area that swear by this shop called "Realspeed" and there are guys that wouldn't dare bring their car there. (myself included)
Best bet is going out and talking to guys who had major work done on their Fords. See how long it took for the work to be performed, price, reliability, how clean they work, and see how they talk to other customers. The shop that worked on my car came highly recommended from family friends and local guys in my area. Before I dropped the car off I went over there and see what this guy knew and how his shop looked. After talking to him for 20 minutes and seeing that he was very knowledgeable, I dropped my car off and it came back in tip top condition. I even recommended him to another member and he also had a great experience with him and his work.

Yeah, there's a shop here in town I got to see last year shortly after I bought my MM. A buddy of mine that was getting ready to move to Colo had been looking for a SS Impala for awhile and saw one up for sale in this area. He asked me if I was planning on coming up here anytime soon, and it just so happened I was coming up here the next weekend to see my kids.

Long story short, he rode up with me, bought the SS, and I talked with the owner for about half an hour when he saw my MM parked out front. I sent him an email about a week later with several questions, but never got a response. The name of the shop is Redline Racing and they have their own website. Been thinking about going back to that shop, but don't have a particularly warm fuzzy since I never got a response to my email.

He modded a Honda CRX and won many trophies with it and even appeared on an episode of 'Pinks' when they were filming at ZMax dragway in Concord (Charlotte) NC. I'm sure there's a bunch of vids on youtube with his CRX.
