View Full Version : Performance Shock suggestions - Coil over perhaps...?

My Marauder is at about the time of needing new shocks etc...
I'd like to replace the stockers with a performance upgrade as I have done elsewhere on the vehicle. Since I am now approx 800RWHP I have considered the idea of finding a nice set of coil over's... Has anyone gone this route?
What is you're best suggestions for a performance shock setup?

FYI - The vehicle has never ran the 1320 but has ran the road course track at Pocono International raceway numerous times. I plan to continue taking the Marauder there for future track events. I do still use the Marauder on the road but not as a daily driver anymore.

Have you done any other suspension mods? (i.e. HD sway bar and control arms)

I'm running these and have been very pleased with their performance:

For the Money, I would choose eibachs springs and KYB shocks up front, and QA1's for rear.

Has anyone gone to a coil over setup? If so please let me know some details...

Anyone running that Nakke setup?

Not any more and never again!
Major fitment issues and the seals on all four started leaking after the first yearand just over 12k miles!
Running the model specific KYBs front & rear now and very happy!

I think what your looking for is not going to be on a shelf somewhere. Your best bet is to find a specialty racing shock manufacturer and see if they can create what you want.

Front Naake setup sucks if you do any kind of driving in your car. They are okay for trailor queens and cars that don't see DD usage but wouldn't recommend them otherwise.

I pulled them of my car due to many issues and am probably going to just get rid of the fronts. For the fronts I would just do KYBs witha cut coil on OEM springs or Eibach or Eaton lowering springs.

The rears are holding up fine with no leaks and I enjoy the adjustable setting as I like to tweak it depending on my mood. Just spent way to much time and money attempting to get the fronts right and now that I have the KYBs on there I just don't want to mess with it anymore.

I may take a chance on a set for the rear for the adjustable feature, ill stay away from the fronts.

Anyone running that Nakke setup?

I'm running QA1s all the way around, Addco swaybars, Metco Control arms and Watts link.

Love it. From what I understnad, it's the 'Nakke' setup but all they do is provide the same QA1 parts you can buy from Summit (I did) with one exception.

In removing the stock suspension, you have to come up with a way to secure the front coilovers. The upper and lower mounts need to be fabricated as they are integrated into the strut mount - but it's just a couple aluminum parts that any highschooler can make with a lathe.

"O's Fan Rich" gave me all the Summit part #s, and he or I can pass them along if you like.

My issues with the fronts wasn't so much the mounts as I reused the stock upper mount with the supplied spring and made my own lowers.

The problem I had was the springs were sagging and I had to set the spanner nuts at different positions to maintain a level ride height. Then one of the spanner nuts backed off one me and I had to jack the car backup on the side of the road.

Here is my current spreadsheet, just look at the QA1 tab for info, P/Ns and links.

Yea, mine did some of that too. I went with 400 lb/in springs at first because they were chrome plated, but they sagged initially and I had to re-adjust them. The next year, they had again sagged and I adjusted them to the limit but they further sagged a couple years later.

I've since gone with 550 lb/in (not available in chrome plate) and after the initial sag and adjustment, they have been fine for a couple years now. I'll see how they did over the winter when I spring the beast from winter storage next weekend. If they are bad, there is always 600 lb/in and 650 lb/in sizes.

I thought about doing the same and decided to try making a perch for the factory spring. Unfortunately I was a little off on my measurements and they wouldn't work without minor grinding on the stock spring. I couldn't bring myself to do it to my stock ones at the time and just threw some KYBs on the front.

When/if I decide to try it again I'm gonna order some of the eaton springs or buy set of someones takeoffs then grind away a little on the bottom coil.

Half thinking about just selling the whole front setup and letting someone else play with it. Just sticking with the KYBs until it's no longer my main mode of transportation and I'll decide then.

I would remake the mounts now that I know where I messed up but they cost me a bit and I just couldn't justify another $250 to make another set.
