Those are nice...congrats!

I see a LOT of them here in the A-T-L...unfortunately, many of them are "ruined" with spinning 22s, and "boom-da-da-boom, boom-boom, da-da boom-boom" coming out of them

Our best friends have an Escalade, and it's a great car. One question that I might as well ask now, and show my further ignorance. You say your car is AWD (all wheel drive). What's the difference between AWD and 4WD? Been dying to ask this for awhile.

I'm not an engineer by any means, but here goes:

The Cadillac AWD is a permanent type of 4WD without any selection for 4-High, 4-Low or 2-High. It maintains a standard 40% front, 60% rear torque bias on dry pavement until one wheel spins at a rate faster than the others. At that point the system will direct the majority of torque to the wheels with the most traction. There is no locking center differential. That allows the vehicle to be driven on dry pavement without stressing itself.

That's the best that I can do.

Without going into the complicated explanation of each, suffice it to say that the difference is:
4 wheel drive is for off road use. It is the real deal.
AWD cannot be used off road, and is strictly for street driving.
Nobody is going to take an Escalde off road, so 4wd isn't necessary. AWD drive will help in the snow and rain. Which is all an Escalde driver wants.
Granted nobody will take an $80,000 - $120,000 Hummer off road either. At least not serious off roading. But that's just an image thing.

I'm a hard core car guy, but I get to play with an Escalade at work every now and then and I have been very impressed. The headlamps are amazing at night. It's the SUV to have in my opinion. Nice new ride.

Sorry Todd, I like the 22's,23's and 24's on them. I don't really like the "spinner" wheels but I do like the bigger wheels on that truck. It is one truck that does look better with bigger wheels.

Sorry, but I still can't get used to Cadillac, or Lincoln, building trucks.

Wow dude...a 2004 top of the line escalade, and a Mercury marauder? You must be doing something right. LOL :D

Those new Escalades are shweet!

The Hummer was made as an All-Terrain Assault Vehicle.
It is GUARANTEED to reach a top speed of 120MPH in SAND. :bows:

Maybe the military configured Hummer H1 could do great things off road, but the H2 is a whole different animal.

Don't get me wrong, I like the new SUV's  , but growing up in the 50's and 60's, if you told me that's what people would be driving in the future and liking it  , I would never have believed it. :flamer:
In the 70's we were getting pulled over for having a van, if it wasn't a work van it must be a hippie hangout :rasta: :beatnik: , Times change, I guess.

I remember driving my big cars during the 80s and everybody I knew, I mean _EVERYBODY_ saying things like: "Dude, why do you drive such a big car?" and "Doesn't that boat get terrible gas mileage?" Now all those people are, no doubt, driving SUVs that get worse mileage than my big car. But, I probably shouldn't complain. SUVs have taken the heat off my favorite class of vehicle in terms of environmental impact. :cool4:

Gman, that has got to be the absolute best layman's terms explaination of the AWD vs 4WD difference that I've ever heard.

The H2 doesn't cost $80,000 either...

I test drove the h2 before getting the marauder. It was wayyy too slow, with a 0-60 of 11 seconds it was way underpowered. On the freeway the car sucks... the only place that car belongs is offroad. Also the gas mileage is like 7mpg on stock wheels, i get 14 average now that ive driven it both freeway and city. The escalade is just more luxurious, more powerful ( 320hp in hummer vs 345 in lade) and sexier. Believe it or not the escalade is cheaper to opperate than the marauder was.. i was getting 15mpg on the marauder with 91..the lade i can fill up with 87 :)

I think your 15mpg for your MM is a little low maybe. But "10mpg overall" for the Escalade even on 87, doesn't seem like it would be cheaper to operate

ok rephrase.... 15mpg on the marauder with a heavy foot is as cheap to opperate as the escalade with a very light foot.. which ultimately gets 13.5 mpg now that ive driven it for a few days.

I was getting 15MPG city with my 04 MM but now that I've gotten 1500 miles on it,
I'm getting closer to 20 MPG in the city, and about 27 - 30 MPG on the highway
using the cruise control.

I got this MPG while cruising at 65 - 70 mph and using Citgo 93 octane.
