My heater motor in my 2003 is not working. It just shut off last week and the control does nothing. Any ideas what could have caused this?

May be your blower control module, located near the blower motor

This module is acessed from the engine bay, passenger side, near the firewall, on the air duct wrapped in silver. You will see an electrical plug. The module is fastened with two screws.

The module is about 2 inches wide and about 6 inches long and slides in the duct for cooling the large power transistor mounted on it. It costs about $80.00

Sometimes the solder connections break on the circuit board and one can make in house repairs by resoldering the runs.

Changing the board is not difficult just tight, but you can dissconnect the two heater hoses on the firewall for more roon. Many of the members have done this repair.

There's a sticky on the subject

I found an Airtex brand module on Rockauto for $60 bucks, it was the only one to fit our cars with the automatic climate control, ive got to order one as i have the same problem.

You can try tapping on it with a blunt end of a screwdriver with the fan on high. That usually kicks it back on.

Well I finally took out the blower control module. What a Pain that was. I guess Ford 'had a better idea' on that one. Do not know how I will get it back in!!!! I took the plastic casing off and I do not see and bad solder joints. So I then hooked a direct line from the battery to the blower motor and that checked out fine. Next I looked at all the fuses and the relay, All were good. Then I took a voltage reading at the plug that goes in the blower control module and there was voltage there. So, I am going to order a new control module. Can any one can think of another issue... Could it be the climate control piece in the dash? Does anyone know how to test the Blower Control module to see if it is good?

Did you try this 1st! 2 of my MM's stopped and both after tapping on them started again and never acted up after that.

Well I decided to take one more close look at the Control Module with the plastic end off. I used a magnifying glass since I do not have X-Ray vision like I had in the 60's and 70's even with my reading glasses on. One of the joints looked liked the solder had lifted off the circuit board. But it did not look that bad. So I solder it up anyway. Went outside attached to the plug and success, blower motor working...... Thanks for all your help everyone.

Mine went out last week and I followed all the great info here to change it out. All went as planned EXCEPT I have the DR rear engine cooling mod and it was a F%$#(NG B*&^h! to get that thing out of the firewall. I thought I was going to have to undo the motor mounts and jack the engine up. Finally undid as many hose clamps as I could and yanked the thing straight up to get it out, and had zero clearance.

I'm going to check the solder joints but not really 100% sure what to look for. What a PITA. No idea how I'm going to get that bottom screw back in!

I'm sure that this is the problem. No fan but I do have heat and A/C. Only variable is when I go to MAX A/C nothing works at all, not even the little bit of pass through I've been getting.

Thanks,

Norm

Only variable is when I go to MAX A/C nothing works at all, not even the little bit of pass through I've been getting."Normal" A/C uses outside air, while MAX A/C uses recirculated air, so even if the car is moving, you won't feel anything out the vents if the fan isn't blowing.

I had the same deal, resoldered the power transistor and all ok. Also my AC control stopped working. Read up, changed the o rings and now works, however only blows through the front vents when set on max AC, so that's how I ride!
The module for the blower control was a nightmare to pull out and put back in. I think they drop that in before the engine goes in, and who cares after that? We do!
