up to the refuel pump.
As I pulled into my favorite refueling station the low fuel lamp came on.
This tankfull, the 'ole girl went 256.4 miles on 18.067 gallons of BP93
If we do indeed have a 19 gallon fuel tank(personally disproven)that leaves one gallon for reserve.

Interesting I have checked mine repeatedly and it comes on at 4.5 gallons left.
You might want to go back to that station and see how many gallons it takes to fill a 5 gallon can.

On my way to MV9. At one stop I drove 330+ miles and pumped 18+ gallons of gas.

I never let my tank get that low.
I was told that its bad for the fuel system cause all the left over crap at the bottom of the tank might get sucked into the fuel pump.
Also, the gas in the tank aids in keeping the pump cool. At those levels, no cooling and a chance of destroying the life of your fuel pump. :nono:
I really don't care how much mpg I make. I have a V-8. I want power and speed......plus when I put the pedal to the metal it gives me a big smile. :D
Somethings gotta give if I want those and its the mileage.

I swore when I got a new FP, I would refill sooner than later but I have run it low a few times since.

My light comes on at almost every fill up. One pump in 10 years (also driven by a BAP for two of those)
So there goes that theory..

I drive mine quite often till the light goes on. That's what the sock is for. The pump still sucks off the bottom, no matter the fuel level. It's just with more fuel, now anything on the bottom is being sloshed around and suspended all throughout the tank.
Sooooooo, what's the difference? Full or empty?
I say drive it like you stole it and until the light goes on.

The fuel cools the pump so you should not let it get below 1/4 tank if you care about it!!
I always refill when I reach 1/2 tank and have 156K miles on my ProCharger pump!!:bows:

Same here, too many 18+ gallon fill ups for me :mad2: Barely a gallon left when the light comes on and not that far from reading 1/8 or so.
I drove my 2001 Vic for 5 years and 110K and that light came on with 15-16 gallons left.
Fuel cooling the pump is mostly a myth. If you NEVER fill the tank then maybe you got some problems.

Was out running errands a little earlier...planned on getting gas on my way home as I was just below 1/4 tank. Enmark stations around here offer 7 cents off premium on Tuesdays. (Still paid 4.159...:mad2:)
While waiting for a green light, low fuel light came on. Within 5 seconds, light turned green, drove a mile/mile and half to gas station w/o any stops.
Pumped in 17.312 gallons/$72. Trip odo read 313.7, so got 18.1mpg on last tank. Saved a whopping $1.21 with 7 cent discount...guess I can use it to buy a lottery ticket, although I think I would be happier with free gas for life.

My Grand Marquis has been giving me 26mpg hwy the last week or so, I'm lucky if I get 16 in the Rauder on the hwy LoL.

I consistently get 330 miles on around a full tank. I have 4:10s and a dyno tune too. Max A/F ratio is 13.13 according to the sheet so.... lol

My light usually tends to illuminate when there's about 4 gallons left, usually a fill up is about 15 gallons, don't remember the last time I looked at the cost of premium at a gas station, if I cared about the price I wouldn't have bought a 4000 pound V8 powered car. I just pull into the first Shell or Mobil I see.

When my low fuel light comes on, which it does often, I reset the trip meter under the odometer. My record in my '94 MGM was 80 km (about 50 miles) after the light went on, and still pulled in for gas with the engine running.
I figure the MM gets no more than 2/3 the mileage, maybe only half, so I aim to fill up before the trip reads 40 km. That's usually enough to make it to my usual station, even if it lights up on the way to work.
