I dropped my tranny pan to do a filter and fluid replacement and discovered there was no magnet in there to collect the metal shavings. There was no plastic plug in there either so I could tell the tranny was serviced...the fluid looked clean, didn't smell burnt but I still serviced it but have been driving without the magnet thingy. You guys think this is ok?

Should be fine.
Just get another magnet before you service your trans at the normal interval and put it in the next time.
I have a deep sump Art Carr pan that is aluminum and I managed to put the magnet in the pan.
Every little bit counts!

I would get a magnet back in there as soon as practical. It's there to keep ferrous wear material from being circulated by the fluid and clogging up tiny orifices (orifi?)
