I stared out with a nice powder coated lower, PM'd NA SVT - who has a good knack for doing these and he hooked me up.

Heres the pictures:

Serious grey hair moment. (see below) Ugg, dropped one of the intake studs that is used for wire management. (the injector harness)

Only turned them into new intake 1 turn. It rattled and FELL OUT when I was lowering in the lower! Thank god it didn't go in. Stopped, took 5 minutes and removed it with long needle nose. Do not let this happen to you!

Finished! It looks good - nice and clean. Put new O-rings on my COT and cleaned up a bit. 2 gallons of new coolant.. It does feel stronger after one day. Definite increase. Drag time should be coming in April.

Thanks Bill (RacerX) about the injectors. Just wiggle and pull, but I managed to pull off the fuel rail first, (doh) NBD I just wiped them off clean, put coating of WD and reinstalled.

Thanks to NA SVT for doing my intake! I'm loving it.

Nice work on the intake. I had a similar grey hair moment, a head of a bolt from my previous cam cover install was laying in between the lower intake and the head. When I removed the lower it managed to drop into the port. I didn't see it drop in, luckily I had the sense to look into the ports before installing the lower intake and saw it laying in there. Pulled it out with a magnet and saved myself from destroying the cylinder and head all with a tun of the key.

Any hollow noises coming out of it? I been meaning to get my intake sent out to him, but just haven't had the time. Also I never removed the COT when doing the intake swap, just gently bend the tabs out of the way with the alternator removed and you can slide the intake underneath. This also saves you from having to drain the coolant and burp the system when your done.

Looking forward to your new E.T!

Yeah, no hollow noises. Last time I did my rear head cooling mod, I pulled the COT and the o-rings were pretty bad, plus I had to reinstall my 170 Reische stat so I had to drop the coolant anyway. Track time should be interesting!

Yeah, but at least I can still admire the powder coat. :)

Looks good!
Thanks Landy!

Nice, Babs!
Good thing you got that bolt out....

Wow, I won't make that mistake twice!

Gotta pick me up a spare upper/lower intake at some point...

And lesson learned keep ALL loose fasteners far away from the engine until the intake is lowered down!!

Good tip for swapping the engine

Thanks. I think the lower is around 150-200 perhaps less and powdercoating is around 150 also, check in your area for pricing. Dont let them powdercoat anything inside the intake.

Well - I spent all my spare money on Mods :D

I've got gobs more torque now. I did just upload my summer tune, did colder stat and intake. I can just roll into now in 3rd and it just plain pulls. What 1/4 mile time do you think would prove over 300 at the wheels ? 13.5?

I have anther mod coming too - need to do that -- then perhaps I'll get my own dynotune. I actually have Blackend300A's dynotune. :D Got it thru JDM, with Pauls blessing of course... :burnout:

Looks good!
Coming from you -- that's good. ;) Still loving my LED kit...

I dynoed at 330 at the rear wheels and ran 13.75...you should definitely be under that.

Has the lower intake been cut apart for porting? It looks like it has been welded by runners on the bottom. Also, was it powder coated to keep some heat off the bottom of the intake like a valley pan? Just curious and really nice piece.

Are you saying with the mods listed in your signature you made 330rwhp? What tune are you running?

Who is NA SVT a vendor or member ? I have beeen out of the loop on this mod. I was under the impression there was no hp or tq gain when porting the T/B plenum or intake on a non s/c ?

cut and weld is the only way to do it right. powder coat is for looks.

He is a member, is sporadically on here. Re gains: timeslip coming. It definately is a good upgrade, but I've already done CAI, TB and exhaust first..

Subscribing......as I'm interested and if this mod is worth it for the price & power gains.

Please keep us posted!

Has anyone tried Extrude honing an intake. We did one years ago on a 5.0 intake because we were getting tired of cutting them apart. Only issue was that it removed material everywhere. Some areas needed less removed or different contours in port shape. Not bad for aluminum but pricey on cast iron. Just curious. NA SVT work looks sweet.

yep, thats what I was told, re extrude hone - it will take material out of places that didnt need it removed. I had my heart set on doing it until I learned otherwise.

The lower was cut and thats the only way the intake can be ported effectively.

Ported TBs and upper intakes offer no power gain. Ported lowers however offer good gains for both n/a and FI.

Extrude hining offers very little benefits. The reason is that it only attacks the smallest cross sectional area of the runners. In 1999 the cobra intakes had "low power" issues so ford sent many of them for extrude honing. I've ported quite a few of these and the only section of the runners where extuding took place was the area around the injector boss; the runner inlets were untouched.
