All,

I've been searching through our website for about an hour now, trying to find threads on DIY S55 treatment; I'm sure there has to be someone that has done this, but I have came up with a big zilch.

Not only am I looking for how to DIM (myself), but also the paint/color code I need to look for (SB) and where to buy said paint.

Thanks in advance,

Iwant

Dont know the paint but,
1.) Tape off anything you dont want to paint.
2.) Lightly rough up surface
3.) CLEAN said surface with whatever is handy...
4.) Start your painting. :) multiple coats makes for a better finished product.
5.) Rip off tape and clear coat the whole light so know chipping occurs.
6.) Wet sand if needed to get the little blemishes out.

I think i got that right? Lol somebody correct me if im wrong! :)
Very simple, just takes time. DO NOT RUSH!

Paint code is on the drivers door.

Remove the lights, lightly sand, clean, tape off, clean, spray multiple light coats, might need to wet sand in between coats, remove tape, clean the "red" areas, multiple coats of clear, reinstall.

You might want to get them done at a local body shop. Will be cheaper if you take them off and deliver to the shop.

Mask of the three areas and the vary bottom. Then take it to a body shop and give them the code if you want it to look best. Doing it your self will take lots of time and stuff to get and will not look right

Cost me $20 for paint and took about 2-3hours. Most of that time was spent waiting for the paint to dry. I masked them off - scuffed - cleaned and dried - sprayed the "plastic adhesion promoter" and let it dry - aplied 3-4 even coats of UA, letting them dry between coats - and sprayed on the clear coat 2-3 times. Easiest mod I have ever done.

Edit:
Pics after I completed the mod.

Got a quote today to have S55 treatment done...$250...and that's if I remove the lights and bring them in...$50 more if I don't.

So, I'm leaning towards doing it myself and have a few questions. Will I need some type of paint-spraying equipment? What grit sandpaper is best to use? Best conditions to do this if outdoors?

Thanks for posting this, Rex...didn't cross my mind about doing this when I bring my car to him for the massive HID/LED upgrade project...was supposed to tomorrow, but we had to reschedule...hoping to get over to his place first half of next month. We'll have the rear lights off the car, so might as well do the S55 dealio then!

Autozone..Take the paint code from your door and they have the exact match.get the same brand clearcoat...just make sure the paint is thoroughly dry before using clearcoat or it will bubble up.ask me how I know...Use the sponge type sanding blocks.1000-2000

Went to Autozone today...all they had were the touch-up bottles. The guy suggested a NAPA store downtown that can mix the paint for me...anyone have an idea of how much this would cost? I called, but they weren't open. Also, how much paint do I need? I'm painting the taillights and reverse lights.

Here's another interior option. I just put a red pinstripe decal accross the dash and got new floor mats from Redline with red lettering. The camera plays tricks with the light. In person they do both look like the same shade of red. I also have carbon fiber dash inserts that the original owner installed. It's more subtle without the red leather, although I did come very close to having it done once. I put the money into performance mods instead.
