Her are some pictures from a visit to Mayberry (Mt. Airy,NC) on Easter Sunday. The downtown area was the pattern used for the popular 1960's television show "The Andy Griffith Show". It is also the birthplace & hometown of the lead actor,Andy Griffith. For those that remember watching the show, Snappy Lunch & Floyd's Barber Shop was one of the settings of quite a few episodes. I was looking for the 1962 Ford Galaxie squad car replica that is usually parked around town, but had no luck finding it.:( For those that would like more information about the area, click here----> www.visitmayberry.com

Very cool, I went there this past summer for our family vaction. My brothers family and my family met half way and landed there. We had tons of fun. Besides the canoe trips we took. The funnest thing was taking the MM through the mountian roads and listening to her just sing catless thrush muffling sounds through the mountain sides twisting and turns. :)

I didn't have time to check if they did, but finding 100 octane racing gas has been very elusive in the state. Last time I had found it, it was $8.99/gal. :awe:

:agree: I was in West Virginia earlier that day & you had to drive through 2 tunnels on I-77 north of I-81 in Virginia towards Princeton,WV, shutting off the stereo, opening the windows, and a short burst of WOT is music to a car guy/gal.

The Mayberry police car was at the June 2011 Carlisle "All Fords" last year. I have pics that I'll post up later. It might be on the road visiting other car shows. :dunno:

Had seen it going & coming from my road trip Sunday, but figuring that it was Easter, the park would had been closed in observance of it. It is always a nice view of Pilot Mountain from U.S. Hwy. 52 weather permitting.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but the pics above of that cop car doesn't look like any '62 Galaxie I ever saw. The side mouldings are totally different.

Car in pics looks more like a '60 Fairlaine.

But again, I could be totally wrong.

Nope, you are half right. I checked the 2011 Directory for last year's Carlisle "All Fords" and the car is shown in the photo section for the Building T Invitationals as a 1960 Ford Galaxie owned by Walt McClelland (from the Andy Griffith Show). The Fairlane was somewhat smaller.

Featured cars at 2011 Carlisle included the Ford Starliners and Sunliners and the 40th anniversary of the Ford Pinto.
