Get a MuscleMerc one since it's made to fit.

I hear you, but the one I posted is 1/3 the price. I was just wondering if anybody has used a universal.

I had a universal one but didn't have the right hoses for it, they kept wanting to collapse under throttle which why I got a MuscleMerc one and then placed my universal one on the driverside in-line from the back of the driver head to the air intake tube.

IMHO.... the eBay / universal catch cans are garbage. Hoses don't fit, hoses not of the correct material and the catch cans are empty.... noting inside to help separate the oil from the vacuum.

Yes they are 1/3 the price of a good catch can but they won't do anything for your Marauder.

Easy to empty and clean, I have one of these - it works. $40.00

Quality, workmanship, and function of the mm catch can can't be beat, IMO. Worth every cent I paid for it.

Are there any beneficial differences between the Reinhart Oil Separator and the MM Catch Can? By beneficial, I mean any real difference that would make one out perform the other?

The mm catchcan is positioned down and away from the PCV valve, and has a stainless steel filtration element in it that traps the oil very efficiently, minimizing any oil mist from returning to the engine. Not sure how the ROS is designed; I don't think it's got a filtration element, but I don't know that for sure.

Sorry to be dense but the catch can is to enhance your oil vapor filtration and keep it out of the intake. correct?

Thanks.

Why buy one from Reinhart when you can get the parts for about $12.00 at Lowes or Home Depot?

BTW... I'd get one of the eBay / universal ones before I get one of the Reinart ones.... :shake:

You are a vendor - hook us up if you can do it for $12 in parts (doubtful)

You sir are correct.

Mine catches water vapor too. Milky brown crap about once a week - to empty - twist, dump, wipe re-install. The other catchcans are a nightmare to empty and clean in comparison.

Here you go..... Less than $12.00 in parts......

Add about $2.00 for fittings. You pay the freight, I'd make money....

Emptied mine this past weekend, took all of two minutes or so to empty into a wad of paper towels; then I wiped off the bottom and reinstalled the knurled plug; badabing-badaboom - done.

Just removing the drain plug isn't going to do it, the oil is coated all over the inside of the can, and will be sucked into the intake before ever registering on the "gas gauge" Try it sometime if you don't believe me.

I can change mine in 10 seconds and use 1 paper towel.

Yeah, I know what you mean about registering on the sight gauge; if a guy waits until the oil level gets high enough to see, the filtration medium is already oil soaked.

I would imagine just about any catch can is going to be prone to collecting some oil residue on the interior walls, but still gotta be better than running a straight line from the PCV valve back into the intake.

10 seconds? Dang, I need to start doing some practicing.... ;) ----> :D

I just took off the hose that connects from the valve to the intake and there was oil at the end that connects to the intake. So I went ahead and disconnected my K&N intake arm and looked into the throttle - what I saw in there has my spooked!! Thick, jet black tar. What is the best way to go about pulling everything apart and cleaning the oil out before I install catch?

babbage

Take the upper lid right off, then clean it and the tbody on a bench. The lower will then be exposed and you can spray that down.

You can clean the INSIDE of the intake with carb cleaner.

Use throttle body cleaner to clean the throttle body.

Use MAF cleaner to clean the MAF, IAC and throttle position switch.

After your done and all is back together I'd Seafoam it.

Get new throttle body, throttle position switch and IAC gaskets. You can reuse the upper intake gasket.

Clean out the PCV as well.

I bought this one and with a little creative plumbing, it looks like it came on the car, then I added the pre-filter to the drivers side.

I used Weatherhead hose from NAPA, it doesn't seem to collapse.

no comment about FBM's posting about the reinhart parts being $12 (Still doubtful?) FBM wins again. Hey i have a MuscleMerc Chrome catch can for $50 if anyone wants it. Its the catch can only, no hoses.

no comment about FBM's posting about the reinhart parts being $12 (Still doubtful?) FBM wins again.

The one FBM posted is -not- the same as what reinhart sells. It's basically a filter for an air compressor, which isn't in a "T" config either. A baffle does not a catch can make, parker unit has a stone type filter element designed to stop the oil.

I'd like to see the 42draft designs one on someones MM, is the exit hose totally clean and dry?

I also have a musclemerc can for $20 shipped if anyone wants it (just the can)

No, the PCV side is the most important side. People who are running boost it's a good idea to do the intake side as well. If NA it is really just their choice, I did mine only cause I had a second catch can (which was my original PCV side one) and installed that on the intake/drivers side.

Almost $500 for a "pair". Plus all the countless AN fittings, custom made can mounts (CNC'd from billet aluminum) and the XRP line @ $157 a foot, it gets expensive. But............. no oil in my intake either.
