For the street I'd only go up to 4.10's

I'm going with 430 but was asking about the 456

After my recent trek to Louisville I got 19.8 MPG at 2750 RPM's at 76. I would love to try the 4.56's now! IMHO 4:30's should be the very first mod done period. My keys are always here for people to test. No regrets at all, just smiles.

Headers and a good dynotune work wonders for mileage. I want a gear vendors overdrive then I'd get 4.56 gears - which become 3.55's (3.5568) on the interstate with a flick of a switch.

THIS would be something slick, post up if you do this mod.

I love my 4.10's. But after driving Justbobs car. I REALLY like the 4.30's. And in my opinion, put all the nay sayers against 4.30 gears to rest.

Search for a former member (or still is) BillyGMan. He was the first and last I believe to run with 4:55 gear as a daily driver. I think he was the first to post a burn-out with said gear on youtube.

At that time he was N/A as we all were. I just got my MM 2 months before (1-15-2004) this was posted and 1 month later I had the 4:30 gear installed (with 78 miles on her). Back in those days Kenny Brown was the only S/C basically around. Mac & Zack was at the front of this modding if I remember right (I forgot to mention Dennis Reinhart also), me and Slowpoke was the only guys that had the 4:30 installed. If you go with the 4:56 gear there is a special part thats needed for the install (I have it in my notes somewhere).

But here is the link.

Oh... not trying to start a big debate here but BillyGMan's burn-out was impressive for a N/A car. His (BillyGMan) burn-out was the first MM on youtube and at one point there was a DVD around. His statement was true, there was no tune for the 4:55 gears in those days so we had to settle for 4:33s. Some of us WCM should remember the first dyno-tune day that Mac organized when Jerry Barnes drove in to do the tune on the Dyno for us.

Um it was Jerry Wrobleski that tuned the cars, NOT Jerry Barnes! I was there as well.

Leon, you need to make it to MV10 and show off that car of yours!! I have not seen you for YEARS!!

I will, and thanks for the correct Jerry. I would have never got his last name right (That was back in the summer of 03 before I got my Marauder. I showed up in my Lincoln Mark VII). :mad2: You remember the owners name where we had the Dyno, well anyway he install my 4:30 gears was installed wrong (I think). I didn't realize this untill two or so years later when I put her in reverse and would hear a big clunk. Theres more to this story but I'll keep it to myself & Ray (The Dealer). Matter of fack Zack did my Trans shift program at the chicken run (summer of 04 maybe 05), I remember you and your LOVELY wife was there too

BillyGMan came to Louisville years back and threw me the keys. An eye opener to say the least with those gears. That damn thing would scoot!

Zack bought the car, then sold it to Drewstang here in Louisville.

Drew had a helluva lot of fun spanking damn near every car on the road that challenged him.

After a while, Drew got tired of the gears, went to a lesser gear setup, built motor, then sold it last year to a guy in New Mexico.

I seem to remember Billy telling me that with those gears, it spooled up so fast, that it couldn't help hitting the rev limiter. I dunno? Tune maybe?

Just my .02

Mike.

Nice write up by BillyGMan. I'm S/Cing soon so I can definately see 410's in my future. After reading that, if my MM was not a DD and I didn't travel to far back and forth from work, and was N/A I'd do the 430's. Makes sense that way.

Why do you need a video of a burnout with 4.30 gears???

Guaranteed it will look the same as a burnout with 3.55 or 4.20's.....

I don't know. You tell me?

I asked for a video to see/hear it launch. Any flat spots, how much gear does it have 1-2, maybe someone had a run against someone etc. The same way every other person that has done a video with gears. I can care less bout a burnout tired aren't cheap and burnout tickets aren't what's up.

If you're staying N/A 4.30 or 4.56 would be fine. Just bear in mind the cruising RPM you'll be running; it won't have a problem doing the speed limit on the freeway, but if you're prone to exeeding that for long durations I'd think twice or invest in a diff cooler kit.

Mine burps a bit of gear oil through the breather after long highway trips at higher speeds. I'm running 4.10 with an eaton blower and stall converter and I wouldn't mind a bit more gear, but this is a nice compromise. 4.56 would put me crossing the traps at 109mph @ 6000rpm and 118 @ 6500rpm in 3rd. 4.10's have me running near 5500rpm though the traps at my power level.

I will remain NA far as I know on this motor. Now when it goes it's a different story. I have a 4.30 gear im going with. I will learn to keep highway travel speeds down a bit lower i usually travel about 80. Thanks for the info tho

If you cruise at 80 I'd say rock 4.10's. I'm a big fan of gear, we had 4.30's in our last Cobra. But we didn't really road trip it much. We take alot of road trips in the Marauder and sometimes, SOMETIMES I wish I'd done 3.73's like the last MM I had.

Btw, N/A with 4.56 would kick ass city/track driving. Add a small shot of nitrous and really surprise some people.

I have 4.30s in my Vortech car, they are awesome and think nothing of cruising at 80-85 mph. That's around 3000rpms but our engines run much better in the higher rpms

justbob
06-05-2012, 09:20 AM
? Either I am getting old and enjoying the cruise or I prefer lower RPM's? LOL I found that since I did my 4.30's I went from 75 MPH or so cruising down to 65 or so..

Oh yeah, now I recall, not either one! My passing gear no longer kicks down to 2nd above 66/67...

Always gotta be ready for the next schmuck. :)
