View Full Version : Getting the exhaust done tomorrow.

Finally after 5 years, my cherry bomb vortex mufflers are blown out. The internal rattling has made the car embarrassing to drive. Tomorrow I have a appointment for a new mid pipe, mufflers, and to have my 4" tips installed. I'm looking Flowmaster 40 series to quiet down the LT headers a bit. I'll have to see whats offered. Sound clip and pics to follow.

I would stay away from Flowmasters and go with Dynomax. They are a little bit quieter but they will outlast a flowmaster 2 to 1.

I put brand new flowmasters on my Mustang and stored my car one winter in a non-heated garage and took my car out (less then 3 months later) and the Flowmasters had rusted through. I called them up and they basically said that I should expect that because I live in Chicago and they would not warranty them. No problem -I will never buy another product from them again.

I tell everyone that if you store your car in the winter and dont live in a Southern or Western State I would not buy them because they wont stand behind their warranty.

I replaced the Flowmasters with Dynomax and they lasted for 4 years. They sounded almost the same and actually got a little bit louder when they broke in. Just my .02.

Good Luck.

American muffler in Westbury. He offers several brands, I'll see what he got and make a choice. Thanks for the info on Flowmaster.

Go mandrel stainless. I really like my muffled X pipe in the mid section -- can you tell?
If you want quiet Dynomax Super Turbos - or perhaps that new Dynomax VT muffler.

My .02 cents --> Good Luck!

No way will I go with aeros. My mufflers are so blown out that I'm basically running open pipes with a annoying rattle at low rpms and cruising. The noise is too much for my liking right now. I'll see what this place offers and I'll likely stick with a H pipe since I'm a big fan of the classic muscle car sound.

Can't wait to hear it with those headers...whatever you choose.

There used to be an American Muffler on Hempstead Tpke in Franklin Square. Maybe a little closer for you? Good luck!

Great!

Let's hear the final setup - This is my "Summer Mod" project and I can't decide on the muffler (will install the 4" tips and have rear cats removed).

I want greater "presence" when on the road but, from what I've heard, don't want the "Aero" sound.

Can you let me know what you're being charged for the work and parts?

PM me if you'd like.

Thanks,

Mark

Still very happy with the Ford Dual Modes - after they broke in. Not sure if you car find them anymore though.

Everyone? lol I have seen two people who have removed them only cause they were too loud for their taste. Having them with stock piping will have some drone, increased mid-pipe and over axle piping really lessens the drone.

They also make a resonated version of the Aero muffler

You also had a fair amount of stock piping still on the MM. The more free flowing the exhaust piping is the less drone there will be with the Aeros from what I have figured out over the years.

I get more drone in my car cruising than in Doom's car. Of course our rpms are slightly different because we have different gears but he has Kooks and I have stock manifolds... at least for now. lol

Good Luck -I had the 3 year warranty to but it doesnt cover rust out when you get condensation in the mufflers from sitting in the winter. You will probably be okay if you start it a couple of times and let it warm up. It does sound good :)

as long as you like it that's all it matters, but flowmasters on anything else but a pushrod motor sounds out of place.

The custom 2 1/2" H pipe, mufflers, and installation of the tips costs me $500 out the door. Personally I'm not a big fan of flow masters and this was all they had in stock. It sounds nice and more mellow then the rasp I had with my old mufflers. I had to get this done before Carlisle because of how horrendous the blown out mufflers sounded and I won't have any time from now til then to get this done. If they blow out or a better deal comes along, the shop said they will weld in the new set for $50 so it's not the end of the world and the car sounds 100x better then rattling mufflers did.

Thanks for the posts - Sounds real nice (Will need a WOT video to confirm :burnout:).

Good price - I'm hoping that I can get a reasonable deal for just about the same work.

Looks like a decent job is that stainless pipe? Mine now are getting louder, like the packing is getting burned out of them and it gets louder overtime --but slowly.

No way did you have that right to the wood when you left! Nice launch.

I want to get ones that you can uncap on race day, I think next...

They are outstanding when it comes to their work and service. Nicest guys you ever wanna deal with and they stand by their work. The welds on the pipes are perfect and they had me in and out in just over 2 hours.

Love the sound. How much difference is the sound without headers?

Probably wouldn't have as much rasp in the higher RPM's. I only picked up the raspy sound after I installed the headers.

That's why my flowmasters were removed immediately after my header install. Of course, I also installed an X pipe and no converters. The sound was horrible and I could not tolerate anything over 2K RPM's. Yours sounds good, but even though there is no packing, I noticed a MUCH louder exhaust note after a year with Delta 50's on stock exhaust. Loved the sound, till the MAC's went on..
