Try the self test.... http://www.idmsvcs.com/2vmod/eatcswap/selftest.html

See what you come up with.

Something with the blend door.

We recently had a problem like this but it only blew hot. Went to replace the blend door motor and that was ok. Ended up being the control module(EATC). Did not run the diagnostics here.

are you saying that it would not self test?

Perhaps it's those pesky "O" rings failing?

well Ican't remember the last time the heat was on...car is garaged for winters. I knw it has not been on since the engine replacement. the air does blow where directed, floor vent defrost all change. still have time on the esp so it will be going to the dealer

No, I'm saying I didn't run the test so I don't know if there were any codes. The Orings should be fine if it changes where the air blows.

What ours did was we would set it for auto heat and once it got so warm in the car it would change from heat on the floor to trying to blow cooler air thru the vents. But it was just stuck on hot. I used to sell parts at ford and alot of times it was the blend door motor(sold alot of them) which is electric controlled not vacuum. So I went to change that which is a total pain. When I got to it I decided to plug in the new one before I removed the old one and it didn't work either. So I grabbed the control module from the other car and the blend door started working.

Ok, I see. I really think its the EATC too, so its off to the dealer there are 3 things that need to be looked at. Thank God for Ford's ESP plan, I have 3 months left and I have 3 things to look at that should be covered. EATC, air suspension and drive shaft.
Already got an engine and trans valve body, keep this up I will have a new car...lol. $1700 for 2 year / 24k mile plan so I made a good decision to buy it.

Yeah use it! Just get as much stuff you can think of before you take it in so you only pay the deductible once, if you got one.

Dealer says it is the blend door actuator. 6 hours at their labor...ROTF...and lmao

The blend door does operate at all set points so my question is...is it also responsible for allowing the warm air to come from the heater core?

No, there is always coolant flowing through the heater core, the blend door simply allows warm air from the heater core or cool air from the evaporator into the cabin. You have to get the button sequence correct for it to go into self test. Hold the OFF and FLOOR buttons at the same time for two seconds, then push the AUTO button while STILL holding the previous two buttons to activate the self test.

There are 2 large wire connectors mounted to the blower motor with about 10 wires each. Does anyone have a schematic or know where these wires go? Particuarly the top onehttp://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28 726&stc=1&d=1335212987

The top connector (C1147) is part of the HVAC system.

Got it. I need to check the wires, I might have miswired when I replace the connector. The colors are faded so I will un-tape a couple inches to make sure I have them right. I Hope that is where my issue is

Well, I picked car up from the dealer and to my surprise the heat is now working, there was sin error code though and the actuator is not covered on the ESP. DEALER said the self test revealed code b1249. So I guess when it goes out or if it does again I will replace it. They wanted $1000 to replace it.
What does b1249 equate to?

The dealer performed the self test and it likely freed up the door like it used to do on my Crown vic. Try alternating the temps up and down to work the actuator and prevent it from sticking.

got it, I have been doing that since I discovered it was working again and I will do so for a while.
