Are you talking about the stock BFG 235/50-18?

Most folks have gone to something besides OEM tires, due to price and availability.

Cooper makes a good replacement in OEM size, may want to check those out.

I remember this too. I think BFGoodrich dips the tires in Platnium now:rolleyes:

Just about all the manufacturers make a 235/50/18 it's the rears that are hard to come by in the stock size. :)

Yes I'm wanting the stock size front tire....BF Goodrich 235/50/18...
What else is running these now...camaro..?...etc....? That may have an impact on the new price....

Camaro runs a different grade of tire, they are NOT the same load or speed rating as the OEM MM BFGs, the guys that have tried them have not liked the handling.

Just replaced my fronts on Monday. Went with Cooper, OEM size. $340 and out the door (tires were $145 ea, I believe). Was quoted $400 or $450 for BFG fronts. Was quoted $400 to have Coopers put on the rears, which I will do in a couple of months. Quoted $500 for BFGs on the rear. Paid another $40 to have aligned to carfixer's specs.

The cheapest I found online for BFG fronts was $171 ea...plus $40 for shipping.

Good luck...you will find what you want at the price you want eventually.

It seems to me that the only f/r match that is reasonably priced is the Coopers.
I am going to get the Coopers up front, then get the rears to match when the BFGs wear out, (not long). The Coopers look good on Waymon's MM...

COOPER ZEON RS3-A
http://us.coopertire.com/Tires/Passenger/ZEON-RS3-A.aspx?tab=2

They come in our sizes and have a teadwear rating of 500 !!!
They are available at Discount Tire Direct.
I will be ordering a set for my beast very soon...

The BIG difference between Cooper and BFG is that the Cooper has 10.5/32 of tread compared to the 9.5/32 of the BFG.
So with the Cooper you get 8.5/32 of useful rubber.
On the BFG you only get 7.5/32 of useful rubber, and rubber that wears FASTER too !!!

So THAT'S why my Cooper 235/50/18 fronts look as big as my BFG rears!!! I thought my eyes have been playing tricks on me...in fact, I looked at the sidewalls earlier today to make sure 235/50/18s were put on my fronts and not a bigger size...

Correct. I've got the NT850s in the front (420S in the rear) I am going to have to replace the rears soons, but the front 850s have been running real well. No issues

Yep, and they are just a hair smaller than stock sizes, one day I may lower my car to get rid of the fender gap but it's not really that bad. I know handling with this tire combo improved as well feeling more of the road (bumps and stuff) but I can live with it.

I thought (that's the problem I thought:o ) Cooper was mostly a US company and that they were still manufactured here.

The tires are good I have about 4,000 miles on a pair in the front (still waiting to wear out the rear) I have no complaints about noise, wear, looks, fit, etc...

I am just tired of seeing "Made In China".

HA...you's funny! Actually it's a combination of my CPU probably running at 50% or less effeciency and I'm using my phone to get on the internet, which makes me have to deal with signal/connectivity issues. It's a pain sometimes, but usually works fine...and NO monthly internet bill!

Attached are pics of my Coopers I got last week. Will be getting Coopers on the rears later this month; my passenger rear BFG is worn down to where several of the 'wear bars' are missing. This also tells me that when I spin 'em, only that tire is spinning, which means I need to get the diff rebuilt. No biggie, as I had planned on doing that when I get the 410s installed...which I guess for sure won't be until July since I gotta buy new rears now and not 2-3 months down the road like I had hoped.

I agree. I have nothing against the stock tires other than price. But every other performance tire in this size is going to run a good amount. I bought the blem inside out printed tires on ebay. Great deal. 2 for $280.

I don't like the thicker rears people have been installing on MMs. Looks like an off road tire.

I scooped up 4 appropriately sized front tires for $60 off Craigslist almost 2 years ago that had an average of 7/32nds left on them.

1 and 2 lasted until about a month ago, working on 3 and 4 right now. I drive pretty aggressively sometimes...frequently driving it through warehouse parking lots as if I was on a race track :cool4: (heavy cornering in the 30-40MPH range) and fall into the average miles per year bracket (12-15k). My theory is that it's okay to not pay shelf price for brand spanking new front tires if you're on a budget. I would however not skimp on the rear tires as they are way more integral to the handling of the vehicle.

Discount Tire and Walmart do installs for $5-10 per tire. (As long as it meets their safety standards)

Just be weary of the age marked on side of tire, tread evenness, and any patches that are not done "professionally" as most legitimate shops will refuse to mount them.

Good to know about walmart, I wonder if Sam's does the same and as far as plugs and patches...I don't trust either because of my driving habits.

They're ok.

Tread life isn't the best, but they're a little lower on the price totem pole so I guess it balances out. I've got about 30k on a set of 4 and theyre pretty much at the wear bars, replacing them next week. I don't really hammer on them either.

Good luck with mismatched tires. My son was rushed to the emergency room last year and admitted to intensive care in extremely critical condition and I HAD to replace my front tires right now to get out there. There were no new front tires available I could get that day.My buddy at Discount Tire found me a set of used Michelins (140mph rated)to throw on the front and with my new Nitto Motivo's on the rear.
Recently I did a Rte 66 crawl to Chicago and back, around town the combination of Michelin's with the Nitto's was okay,at 65mph they were okay,at 75 they got a bit darty,at 110 they were getting snakey,at 140 they were a white knuckle handful, after almost a half an hour at 140 I was glad to slow down to 110 again.
BTW,the 110 and 140 blasts were this May on Memorial Day week end on the Interstate in the middle of nowhere with no other traffic out there.

Hi UncleLar

Good luck with mismatched tires.

I have no worries with using different brand tires front/rear stable as a rock, can let go the steering wheel at 110mph and it steers straight as you like.

I reckon your problem was the Michelins, in my opinion they are quite probably one of the worst tires ever made, I get more problems with Michalin tires on inspection than all other brands put together.

Very few times have I found different brand or even same brand but different design tires to be incompatible but there's a couple of funny things about Michelins,I had them as OEM on my 2003 Grand Marquis Ultimate and they were pretty good tires in dry and rain but marginal in snow, excellent tread life but VERY noisy.
As of right now Michelin Commander II's are the best tires out for the Big Harley's.I know,my neighbor and I have both switched to them and they beat anything else out there for wet and dry traction, tread wear and resistance to rain groove/grated bridge and road snake( tat strips poured in cracks on asphalt roads "dancing".
Way back in ancient times I ran Pirelli XS2's on the front of my 68 Opel Kadett 1.9 Rallye and Firestone A70X13 wide ovals in the rear.
(I confess,I've had SEVEN Opels and SIX Renault Le Cars (R228's),even had a Triumph Herald convertible once out in California,I've had about 100 cars and trucks).
Maybe sometime I'll tell you the story of my cousin's husband's British father and his adventure purchasing a part for a Norton he found in an alley and restored.
