View Full Version : Big Ford 9" axle housing ends?

I'm looking to have Ford big bearing ends welded on my axle tubes. This is on my 2000 CVPI, but the 8.8" ends appear identical to my '03 MM.

I tried a search, but didn't find any past posts. What I am wondering is has anyone done this (or had it done). I don't need ABS, and want to eliminate the C-clips, and have custom 31 spline shafts made.

I think what most are worried about is losing the e brake. Don't think anyone has done it yet. I think Fordnut was thinking about it.

I have the 9 inch ends.

No ABS, no ebrake.

And how's it working out?

I'm not familiar with the parking brake setup on the Marauder (Only one I ever had to fool with was a 90 Buick Century and it was a cable to the rear drum).

I left the parking brake backing plate & parts off my MM when I went to 31 spline axles & a Detroit Locker. Since I used Ford axles, I still have the ABS rings (& functional ABS).

If you ever look at the thin material on the parking brake shoes, you will appreciate how they are not much good as an emergency brake. Just try coasting in neutral from any speed & see how well it slows you down. If you try to apply it while in drive, I found the automatic release won't allow it to brake.

This is the route I want to take when I finally get the wilwoods for all 4 corners with a abs delete block for the module.

What do you expect from a parking brake? Yes, it's actually a parking brake, but it can be used in an emergency, say if the hydraulic brakes fail.
Coasting in neutral, it should help you come to a stop, albeit at a much increased stopping distance. Isn't obvious that it's not going to have you stopping on a dime? For one thing, they're only on the rears.
The auto-release makes u-turns easier on 2-lane roads :)

I think the OP is talking about setting up a race car. Removing the parking/e-brake on a street car is probably illegal everywhere.

if not mentioned, the older panthers rearends were narrower then the 03+
