Two things come to mind having experienced the same thing in the same city...Your might want to dump a bottle of Chevron Techron Fuel System cleaner in a full tank of gas. Low mileage/seldom used cars out here in the temperature changes plays havoc with the gas in the tank. If you don't use a tank in about 2 weeks, it starts to go bad. We use the Techron about every 4th-5th tank of gas. Keeps it idling smooth.

The second thought is that even with low mileage, your Idle Air Control Valve is probably getting sluggish due to slight layer of carbon/varnish building up in it. I know a lot of people take them off and clean them, but it you go that far, just put a new one on. And I use a Ford one only. While there are some quality aftermarket ones made, I don't want to risk it. The IAC controls the idle, so it affects the quality of the idle. You can get some idle hunting as well with a "slow" valve.

Take a look at the PCV rubber connection at the right side (passenger) of the intake manifold. The PCV line runs from the side of the intake over to the right valve cover. When this rubber gets old it can leak a little bit of air, which will cause a rough/hunting idle. The rubber may look good, but actually be getting hard. It it's the original one, it probabaly is bad (or getting there). Rubber doesn't play well with the desert underhood temperatures out here. I think I have replaced them on all of our cars due to age. One had a small crack in it. When you squeezed it slightly, it would leak air and the idle would get rough.

In the hottest part of the summer, the MM engine will not idle in gear as smooth as a regular SOC 4.6 does.

We have four MM's now (more on #4 later). Some people rescue cats, I seem to be resucing MM's. I live out in Henderson, we should meet up someday. Easy to find my house, it looks like a mini Marauder meet outside some days....

Would probably be a good idea to clean your MAFS and IAC with some CRC QD (Quick Dry) Electronics Cleaner.

Now that I am thinking about it mine is due for a cleaning which I'll probably do later today.

I do it every 6 months, well I used to when I was doing 20-22k miles a year on this car. I normally do it a week or two after I clean and re-oil my air filter.

I mean it can't hurt to clean the stuff as long as you are using the proper cleaner on the sensitive parts. If the car isn't driven much then once a year or every 10-12k miles.
