Well I took this weekend to plasti dip my wheels. Did the rear wheels on Saturday & the front today (Sunday). There was afternoon thundershowers threatening so had to break up the process. Still tho I am quite pleased with the result28923

looks good, but why not just paint or powder coat? also how did you apply it?

Haha well coz honestly it was super easy to apply & super cheap for the materials. And as gots mentioned above I can peel it off at any time. The way I look at it is this is just a trial run. See if I like dark wheels or if after a couple months I decide that the chrome wheels really do make the marauder stand out. Which at that point I havent lost anything by painting or powder coating the wheels.

Plus if I do like the dark setup I do have a set of Focal F01 wheels that I've been eyeing for a long time so this would help me feel good about making a large purchase

It all depends on how you apply it and how thick you apply it. If you dip an item it puts a very thick coating that is soft and rubbery. If you spray it in very thin coats and don't put more than 3 or 4 on it is not that rubbery, it is very similar to some of the rubber coated trim put on some cars from the factory.

looks good! I was thinking about doing the chrome around the windows. Have a can in the garage.. might have to give it a shot (no pun intended).

Thanks for the comments everyone! Yeah I was really pleased with the way they turned out! Like I said, a very easy and very affordable mod. And I don't feel like I've drastically altered my appearance permanently, because I can peel off at any time and go back to stock!

And if you look closely, I didn't plasti-dip the inside of my wheel. I only did the outside rim and the spokes. It's not a big difference until you're right up close. I think if i were to do this again, I would do the entire wheel, but at this point, this was simply a "trial run"

Looks good Ryan, I think I might try it on the inside of my rims.

Just so you know, you can cut that tool dip with thinner and shoot it through a gun. Makes the end result smoother. Use a cheap Charlie harbor freight primer gun with a 1.8 or 2.2 tip and go to town..

Hey not a bad idea. Might have to use this the next time I use it. Thanks for the tip!

I think black rims on these cars makes 'em look more P71 than anything. At least it's reversible.

I didn't take the center caps off and just sprayed the wheel with them on. I used 5 or 6 coats. The more even coats you put on the easier it will be for the stuff to come off.

Last weekend I pulled the plasti dip off my Taurus wheels but left the center caps black which I think looks even better since the wheels are chrome and gives it a nice contrast. I had only done 3 or 4 coats I believe on the Taurus wheels and took a little elbow grease to get some of the weird angle areas off but no more than an hour for all four wheels.
