There is some kind of sensor in the valley of the block, under the lower intake on the 4.6. The 2 motors I'm dealing with have 2 sensors. They are defferant between the 2 motors. I have seen 4.6's with 1 sensor, and soom with out any. And now the questions. What is this sensor? What does it sense?
Thanks Louis
P.S. Feel free to corect my spelling! :)

They are knock sensors.
'03's had one, '04's had 2.

Do they have to be plugged in? Or can they be diconnected?

They need to be plugged in. They are connected to the control module for the engine; and as such adjust other things with their readings.

I am attempting to put an older Mark VIII motor in an 01 Cobra Mustang. The Knock sensors don't apear to interchange. Any suggestion?

If you have pinging or knock. The sensor is designed to detect it and pull timing.
