engine knock

My new 03 with only 1800 miles on it has started to make a slight knocking noise in the engine. :confused: I just bought the car, and thought that I noticed the knocking at one of the fillups during the 800 mile trip home. The knock sounds like the typical rod bearing knock. It's very light, and is heard only at slow engine speeds under light acceleration. Before I take it into the dealer to check, I was curious if there had been any history of knocking with these engines. I've had two 5.4's replaced in my Expedition and F150 with the piston slap, and this noise is a little different.

Any ideas?

Just a wild guess, but could it be coming from the valve cover area? Maybe it's that "loose camshaft" issue that required retorquing the caps...

or it's injector noise telegraphing through the fuel rails

Or the dealer will tell you it's normal on the MM 4.6L engine to have these type of noises. Just live with it. Trust me!
