Just received my KB dead pedal and was anxious to do the install.....but I can't get pass step #1 of the instructions.

How do you remove the drivers side door sill trim ?

Also step #4, how do you determine where to drill the hole for the supplied bolt from the kit ? Does it align up automatically ?

The picture diagram is real hard to make out, other than that, all else seems fairly easy, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is EXACTLY the reason I let someone else do my installs....even on little stuff like the dead pedal....

OK....I know I was no help....................Sorry: (

First, read this thread, instructions by Piglet:

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=306

Details: It's been awhile but I don't believe the door sill plate has to come completely off. I believe it has plastic clips that just pop out of the holes in the chassis. Just the front part is necessary to pop out for clearance of the kick panel. Be careful putting it back together, if one of the plastic pieces doesn't line up with the hole it will bend over and possibly break.

Another problem I had was with the hood release lever. It did not line up properly when the kick panel was re-installed. I added some washers for spacers behind the rear hole of the hood release bracket and it straightened it out.

Otherwise, I specially modified mine and a few other folks' by moving the mounting holes about 1" closer to the floor. Fits me better that way. Details on that are posted somewhere on these forums too.

The rest of the details should be in the thread listed. And pay attention to the part about the holes in the template not being exactly in the right place. If the holes don't line up it will force the bolts sideways and they will cross-thread.

EASY, Did mine this morning. The kick panel is held in with 2 plastic clips. Pull the weatherstriping out & you will see the 2 clips. I pryed the top 1 out with a long flathead scredriver & the bottom clip slid out of the panel. Unscew the bolt that holds the parking brake release in & unbolt the rear one on the stud. Place the silver bracket BEHIND the parking brake release & use the longer given screw 4 the front & reattach the rear bolt. Use the template given to drill the 2 holes in the kick panel. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR HOLES WITH THE OUTER BLACK DEAD PEDAL BRACKET AGAINST THE KICK PANEL. Place dead pedal on the outer kick panel & scew it in to the bracket. (PS) I DID NOTICE 1 OF THE WIRE HARNESSES BEHIND THE KICK PANEL WERE NOT SECURED TO THE PLASTIC WIRING HARNESS BRACKET, SO I DID THAT TOO.

I don't see any mention of the door sill trim (step #1), did you not have to remove this item ?
Also is there any other drilling needed to be done besides the two holes in the kick panel ? The one 14mm bolt that comes with the kit, is there a hole already present for this ? Thanks.

no, the door sill does not need to be removed. the kick panel piece goes in 1 inch under the front part of the sill. no other drilling is needed besides the plastic kick panel. the longer screw replaces the 1 that comes out of the closer hole that holds the parking brake release in. reread my install instructions. i took my time and it took less than an hour with a drink break.

"door sill trim" = "weatherstriping"

One term describes what it is, the is what it does.

sorry SergnMac, the door sill is the plastic piece at the bottom of the door opening (think of marble window sills in the house). the weather stripping is the rubber seal around the door opening.

Thanks, joflewbyu2@aol., I think I can tackle this task much easier now, atleast with some confidence. :rasta:

Just installed the KB dead pedal this afternoon and it looks outstanding, solid as a rock... I took my time inspecting everything under there so my 2 hrs. install time is really about 1 hr. Pretty easy. :beatnik:
First, I'd like to thank all who replied with some very helpful tips, they work. ;) "Thanks everybody".
The only shortcoming I had was aligning the holes to the backing plate after the kick panel was replaced...the template aligned just fine to the kick panel but the holes were about 1/16" to 1/8" to close to each other...the remedy for this is to open the hole larger with the 1/4" drill bit by moving it around the hole while drilling. :burnout:
I did not have to remove the door sill.

Does everyone, with the KB dead pedal, have the solid one as in the picture posted because mine has the non-slip rubber ribs on it. Thanks. :bandit:
