Hello all. My 71 year old mother just bought a 2003 black Marauder this past weekend from a police auction. It was the longtime sherriff's personal ride. It has 89xxx miles on it and it is pretty good shape. She is his personal friend and knows the car well. It took me 5 hours to clean this thing. I have many pics. She bought it for a mother son project. So, I told her I will pick up the tab on taking care of it. Funny thing is I almost bought one of these when they first came out. I still have the dealer brochure. I already own 5 cars and trucks so my driveway is full. Within the next few weeks I will be looking at a few mods to help it out. During my 5 hour get to know you session I put in new plugs and a K&N filter. I also buffed the headlights, cleaned the engine bay, and removed what was left of the cop stuff. IE, computer tray, gun holster, and French fry. Anyway, hello.

Gun holster? Is this some kind of mod just for the Marauder? Does it have the gods head inbossed on it ? I need this mod, is it for sell? Welcome to the sight. Is it light flint or dark charcoal?

You guys are quick. It is black with very dark seats. No bullets were found but I did search. I do need to get the head of Mercury put on the holster. That would be cool. I could start taking orders for my new Fobus Marauder line of glock accessories.

Welcome to the club!!! I also purcheased an ex-Sherriffs Marauder it had 98,000 miles on it. You might want to know about the defective rear axles on the 2003's. Mine had them and I lost a right rear wheel when the axle sheared off at the bearing. Luckily it did not come off the car until it was off loaded from the tow truck. Ford has a complete upgrade kit for this problem it has everything needed including two axles for this safety notice. It is not a recall for us poor regular people they only offered it to fleet vehicles. Good luck!

That bad axle thing is some good info. My mom just came to pick it up. We got on it pretty hard. She thinks it is fast. Funny. I was thinking "this really needs some gears and power". That is ok. I am going to put some .410's and programmer on it soon. I am pretty sure it needs an STS rear mount twin turbo kit as well. I have one more project to finish and I will get to work on it.

Welcome to the MM madness.
I would love to see a STS rear mount turbo set up on it. Especially with the length of the car being what it is.

Hi! I am a newbie 2003 Marauder owner also and this is the first I have heard of this. Is there anyway to tell if this upgrade kit has already been installed?
Thanks!

Really? Although I did not buy mine directly from the police, mine is ex-Sherriff's car with wig-wag for headlights still installed. Originally ordered by Satellite Beach. Don't know if I qualify now that I replaced it already with 31-splines and Cobra differential.
P.S. Welcome to the site ... Hope to see you at a meet.

You're gonna twin-turbo your mom's car?!? What a cool mom!! My mom drives a '91 Buick.
Welcome to the site and the madness bro. Good luck with your new ride.
More FYI (if you don't already know): the oil pressure gauge is fake. There's no sending unit. Most folks replace with a real Autometer gauge. I found that tidbit out AFTER I was a disturbing amount of oil low....cost me the motor. Check your oil.

Things learned so far: bad axles and a fake oil pressure gauge. Thank you guys very much. I like that "Real men drive Marauders". I will tell that to my mom. Mother son project does sound funny. I am going to try and get her to drag race me this weekend. I want to see if the Marauder will out run my wife's 2010 Escalade. I am going to use my personal car lot to test the progress of the car. When she can beat the Escalade we will move on to racing it against the 1970 Z28. If we can get it to beat that then I am going to enter her in some bracket races. It would be funny to see a 71 year old lady running 12'os at the strip.

Hey. The car is from Fort Bend County. I would like to check out your car one day and get some tips. I really need to finish my 1986 Silverado project before I get to deep into this one. Saying that, today at lunch I ordered an all aluminum Holley HP 750DP for the 70 Camaro. I have to stay focused; but I can't. Funny thing is I saw a black Marauder in La Porte today. It made me want to order the .410's. Focus, keep your focus...

I want a Mom like yours! My Mom's ideas of Mother son projects are:
SON! Can you paint my living room (while I go on vacation)?
SON! I clicked on something and my computer doesn't work anymore!
SON! My car is making a really weird noise and can you look at it at 10PM tonight?
SON! My appendix burst, can you drive me to the hospital (I'm kidding about this one).
P.S. My Mom drives a <YEEEECHHHHH> Camry.

Is this the car @ auction? Looks like they only had one. I wonder if it was an impound or something before it was his car.

Hey. That is the car. It was bought new by the county in 2003. He drove it until the Chargers came out and he handed it off to the lead detective. It looks a lot better now.
On my way home today I stopped by my friends house. Talk about Ford overload. 1970 Shelby, 2000 Cobra R, 2008 Harley F250 (with a 1000lbs/ft torque), and a 2008 Shelby (604/617 to the wheels). He just happen to have a brand new set of .410 gears. I got them new in box for $100. We are on our way.
To the big dudes, I hear Sultan Kosen has a Marauder. I think you both look short next to him.

Hey. I need to work on that holster idea some more. I bought my mom a programmer and installed it. I need to get the gears installed soon. These cars are pretty fun. I took several people for rides in it over the weekend and everyone was surprised at how well it runs. I think the biggest boost in performance came from changing the fuel filter. Free county gas must be junk. What are the tax payer's getting for their money? It must be like muddy 81 octane lawn tractor gas this thing has been burning. So, for the first week she has had it it got NGK plugs, K&N filter, SCT programmer, and some new .410's. To bad the gears are still in the box. I will fix that soon.

I know a guy near me and close to you that installs them for $175. Add another $50 for all new bearings, crush sleeve blah blah. He is a 30+ year hot rodder with a shop close. Send me an email and I will give you his info crherniman@gmail.com

Do the J-mod to the trans. If it's still working good, this will prolong the life of it. Most police service vehicles lost the trannys at about 60K miles or so. Read about the J-mod on here and you'll understand why.
With ref to the axles. There was a problem with the hardness of the axles when supplied to Ford. The defective ones failed in the first 30K miles or so, some (like the wife's at 10K under warranty). I just ordered the axle kits and did it for peace of mind on the others. That doesn't mean that they won't go bad from age/miles. First clue is seepage from the rear axle seal. The bearing heats up and damages the seal. If the seal is leaking, 99% of the time the bearing (and axle) are shot.
Any Ford service dept should be able to tell you if it was done to yours in the past at a dealer. I think RoyLPita can check that too, but I'm not sure.
Axle bearings can go 300K miles, or about 100K. no real rhyme or reason..
Good luck with you (mom's) car. I tried to get my mom into one and whle she loved how it cornered flat, she just liked Town Cars more...
