Been a long run with my Merc, she's at 178,000 miles and still holding on. Had her since 04 when i bought her in florida but since i moved to Virginia she has been through pure hell! Since December 2011, she had an alternator fire, had to replace the starter, power steering pump crapped itself, the little plastic idle pulley bearings crapped out which could have caused more damage but luckily got her home in time! Lately i get this rattle upon start up, have no idea what it is, i've changed all idle pulleys, dont believe its the vortec cause once she is running the sound goes away and it doesn't come back while driving even when there is a high demand on the engine, idles a little rough but seems smooth while driving, does seem like at high rpm she lost the throttle response...maybe its time for a rebuild??? But i can say this is the toughest most dependable i've ever owned and i absolutely refuse to get rid of this car:burnout:

CBT, at this point just trying to get something stable. Been to a couple of interviews, still waiting on responses from NNSY, couple of city jobs waiting reply with norfolk/portsmouth and a few contracting companies in the area, the waiting to hear their response after the interviews is what kills me, sometimes that takes weeks!

I work inside Newport News Shipyard. I'll PM you my number, give me a buzz, maybe we can network you a job.

Think i know the old guy you are talking about, i see him every so often here in Portsmouth. Guess me and the only two with silver MM's here. I am stationed at JEB Little Creek, due to retire next month, i don"t really come to the Norfolk Naval side too often.

I DO like big soft hands, who told you? Joe? Why you washing dishes at your bakery, that's what illeg....I mean high school kids are for.

Rex I think Barry is the original corruptor, we are learning from him each and every day, lol.

Anyway, concerning the O.P., things are in motion as far as a job goes, I spoke to a bud that runs the Mechanical group here. Still need to scope out the Marauder, tho.

That startup rattle might be the A/C pulley. That's what I ultimately discovered wrong with my 2002 GMQ; the Marauder occasionally will make the same noises - once every 20 startups or so. Not sure what it was - clutches? - because the A/C continued to work and I only heard it briefly at startup. So I never investigated it that much.
