OK..I already have a new, uninstalled Vortech vs3, non-intercooled kit for the Marauder in the basement that I bought from a member a couple months ago who also never installed.
Now there is like 3 new trilogy for sale, 2 from members and one from Trilogy from someone who needs to cancel their order.
All in all, in stock configurations, I believe both put up about the same hp. pulleys and such can change that and I know the roots type boosts pretty much all the time and the centri needs a few rpms first. i think like 3500rpm?
I bought the vortech as it was near half price of the Trilogy but dang, so tempting to buy a trilogy and sell my vortech kit.
I'm not looking to build mine to the degree that some of you have 475+ hp.. I'm looking to join the boost club, 400 - 425 rwhp sounds just fine to me.
I have tce brake line kit to install, metco c/a on the way. Need new tires (fronts really, but would like to match all new at once and was going to get my rims re-finished)
My car has 74000 miles.. Is it worth the extra $3k for trilogy vs what I already have in my basement?? I mean I know how good and complete the kits are..or should I just keep my vortech and get it installed and be done with it. using the savings for maybe a big brake front upgrade and tire fund..lol Are longtubes worthy of the vortech? or do you have to upgrade the whole system? I live within 45 min. of Stainless Works
I bought the vortech kit to save money and use it elsewhere, should I just stick with that plan and quit obsessing over a Trilogy?

I don't mind hearing Martyo, you've dealt with both, so I appreciate your honesty!

I'd prefer a Trilogy or Eaton. I just really like the looks of a roots style blower than a centrifugal. Plus all the basics are there for a nice Whipple or TVS if one desires.

I have a Trilogy on my car, it has been very reliable, consistent performance. You will feel the Trilogy from a dead standstill and around town. Vortech requires revs.
For a daily driver, I really like the Trilogy.

I'm a Roots blower kinda guy, so the Trilogu gets my vote; but you've already got the centri, so my suggestion is go that route unless you have the extra cash on hand to pick up one of the Trilogy kits.

I don't have a supercharger at all, and really look up to you guys that can afford one; but it is a dream for me to have one.
Because I want one someday, I read up on them.
My vote - being non biased (because I don't have one) - would 100% no question the Trilogy.

Thanks Rex, I know with so many Trilogy and eaton swap members here..the roots will win out. We have a few centri members too, Pat has been a big help with some info I was lacking in my kit. I have the cash avail..I'm sure someone would want a vortech kit that wants boost, but maybe not enough for trilogy or the desire to eaton parts hunt. So it would only be cash up front with some reimbursed later.

if your just shooting for 400-425 i'd go with what you already have... however i once said all i wanted was 400 rwhp.. if you like the roots i'd go for it though. because if you dont you'll never be happy 100% with the vortec. All said. I have a Terminator Cobra and my procharged Marauder. I like them both. it would be tough to choose one over the other. roots does look a whole lot cleaner though....oem..

I have had them both. It really depends on what you are looking for in the powerband. If you want something to launch this heavy car out of the hole go with the Trilogy. If you want 35mph on up in power the Vortech. Personally, I have to say I like the launching ability but I did run a 12.88 with the Vortech kit on a stock block. The tune in it had me around 440 RWHP at that time. I did that on Nitto 555 extreme's with no burnout.

I don't really know what i want for powerband. All my prior cars were/are 6000 lb. small block equipped trucks, and some crown vics, some 9C1 caprices and some toyota cars/trucks over the years. So this is the first "hot rod" type car I'm playing with on a power level. This car is a little scary to spend alot of money on due to the fact specific parts are obsolete so I will never do whipples and axle spline upgrades etc. I just wanna enjoy it and maybe stun a few people along the way being that it is a full size car. Superchargers are new to me and so i bought what i thougth was gonna be ok..not saying it won't be, but this is a trilogy/roots majority and the reliability/drivability and such of it makes me think about it. I don't drive my car daily but i don't want intermittent problems. I mean I think with vortech to change the belt you have to take the centri off..I'm not sure, thought I read that somewhere

Hmmm decisions! decisions!!! as cwright said it depends on what your goals are for the car, the Trilogy is a great kit!
I sold my Trilogy in favor of a Vortech for one simple reason 700RWHP! i knew i would never hit those numbers with a Trilogy, but if your goal is 500RWHP or less the Trilogy is a good option if you dont mind spending the extra coin.
But either way you will be smiling from ear to ear!

I would recommend driving someone's with each set up if you can. That way it gives you a good feel for what you would like. I wish I had done that but I do like both kits.

Having had 2 Centri's & 1 Roots it is exactly like others said bot are good. If youre looking for a good set up for just mainly driving around cruising the town & not looking for huge power go with the roots you wont be disappointed. best suggestion is like CWright said drive both & you will know what you want. I for one love my 2.3 Whipple more then either Vortech I had but I also dont live in FLA. were temp gets very hot if I did though I would think seriously about A2A centri blower, The roots at about a 100* is not that fun to drive IMO

^Bingo. Summer heat sucks on these roots types.

After driving both I'd suggest both, but since you will want to continue down the MOD Your marauder Trail, you'll need funds for those headers you'll want next.
4.10 gears aren't needed with the roots setup, and a high stall TC will do you good with a Vortec

I think you are thinking so hard about the Trilogy, you should go with it. Sell the Vortech and recoupe some funds for other mods.
P.s you do have to remove centri to change belts. That is one thing i'm not fond of.

I would go Trilogy and sell your Vortech next year:)
I need a power adder but the only CARB approved one is the Vortech SC. Plan is to upgrade a S-Trim to a T-Trim to keep the EO#. T-Trim's are not CARB certified.

I mean I think with vortech to change the belt you have to take the centri off..I'm not sure, thought I read that somewhere
You need to take off the vortech supercharger, and I highly advise getting the special tool. It can be done in less than an hour, but will probably take longer the first time. It's not something that would be easily done on the side of the road.
The trilogy supercharger belt is easy to change with an 18" breaker bar, but the accessory belt is a little harder to change bc the alternator needs to be removed. I had a pulley come apart and fixed it in a parking lot in les than an hour... It's way easier to work on.
Now for my serious answer about which one to buy, if you want to make huge power, a centrifugal is the way to go. Keep in mind that with a centri, the power is not on the low end so it takes a while to get going. If you want a well built, complete(with awesome instructions), and trouble free kit, the trilogy is the way to go and it's power at the low end to get the car moving or shred tires. If you want to know which one I prefer, I can't answer that, both my cars are setup so differently. I could tell you that I drive my trilogy about 4-500 miles a week, and have only had one idler pulley issue that was not related to the supercharger at all.
RubberCtyRauder;
I just had my car's heads repaired and during the post repair testing the timing was discovered to be 6.5 degrees for my non-inter cooled centrifical S/C at WOT vs about 14 degrees for an inter cooled S/C. So it would seem I'm leaving about 80 HP on the table without an inter cooler.
Good inter coolers range in price from 1K to 1.5K new, plus piping. DR marketed the NONIC for budget minded customers like myself who wanted the extra horsepower of an S/C without the price tag. DR also told me that I could always upgrade to an inter cooler system in the future if I so desired.
My dyno tuner in Dallas set the timing thus because detonation was going to be a problem with temps here of 110+ degrees ambient.
Presently my non-inter cooled system makes nearly 400 horse power without LT exhaust, also a limiting but expensive option.
I don't do the strip scene anymore so big numbers are not relevant to me. What is relevant is having a fun performance car for everyday use.
My first stock dyno run with a Predator program netted 245 RWHP. After the NONIC S/C the dyno tune netted 380 HP with the outside Texas temps of 110 degrees. More timing was not advisable.
I also now have the head cooling mod and 170 degree thermostat as an extra cooling measure.
As far as belt problems, I have not broken or spun a belt off. Did have a misalignment problem that cut an entire rib off the belt but it never broke. Since been repaired.
Good luck with what ever choice you make. Boost does make a difference.
Regards,
Pat
