Ok I have owned my 03 BLK MM for about 5 years now. Only thing I have done to it is JLT Cold air intake, gutted cats, Magna Flow mufflers, Dyno Tune by Eveloution Performance.
My question is, I have a set of 4:10 gears just laying here in my bay at work that I have had for years and I have been very hesitint to install due to loss in fuel milage. How much do you think I will lose and is it worth installing them?

You will lose 1 - 2 miles per gallon rolling at 80 mph.
Worth it?
Every damn penny!

Do it and don't look back. Really helps to get a big car like this out of the hole.

^^^^^^ What Mike said. ^^^^^
4.10s and a tune are ABSOLUTELY the best bang for the buck on a NA car.
I tracked my mileage both before and after doing the above mods, and saw about a 1/2 to 1 mpg difference, but gained a bunch of performance.

Not if you take it easy and use T/C if you have an '04.

:awe:
Get them installed! Word of caution: you will need to work on your face muscles...start smiling as big as you can for about 10 minutes, 2-3 times a day; doing this will keep you from getting face cramps like I did the first couple days after I had mine installed. Every time I get in my MM now, or even think about being in it, I smile. My buddies are always asking me if I just got laid, and I say 'yep'....lol

... I have a set of 4:10 gears just laying here ...
Glad I'm not the only one! :o I really need to get mine installed too. Unlike you, I don't need convincing, I just need to schedule it and get it done. I know I will love them.

On the 4.10 install I had done on trilogy #248, I saw a 1 - 2 mpg drop and a 0.5 to 1 second improvement in the 0 to 60 times. The thing I couldn't say was how much of that 1 - 2 mpg was gear induced and how much was right foot induced. You will need a speedo recalibration and possibly want a full retune.

First step in blackening your car? BTW, mine still runs the 3.55's.

It's all in the tires and driver. My Jmodded, 4.30's, non T/C blower car handles like a DREAM. Much much better than my Escort or my wife's minivan with T/C!

I had waited years to install my 4.10 gears. I wish I hadn't waited so long as I did because they made the car that much more fun to drive.
I had no problem driving in what little snow we got here, I also have a dedicated set of snow tires but still made no difference, if anything I think I had more fun. lol

The general consensus is that you lose a bit on the highway, but actually gain a little around town if you can keep your foot out of it, so the overall loss is maybe 1-2 MPG...a small price to pay to have a performance luxo-barge.

How I felt when I put the gears in too.
Depends on the snow tho. When we had the 20 some inches I was moving right through it after a couple days. Now that like snow we got months ago. Barely touching the pedal all she did was spin and wanna go sideways from a dead stop. I have winter wheels too.

If I could do this ^^^^ deliberately and consistently ... I 'd probably be on the ToyotaCorolla.Net. ;)

Noob question - since I have a Ford warranty on my MM, is there any way to do the 4.10 or 4.30s without a tune? I'm afraid my warranty will be voided if I take it to the dealer and they see an aftermarket tune loaded. Anyone? I'd hate to have to wait 5 years to do gears!

If you get a hand held tuner, you can keep the stock tune if you have any warranty issues. For the most part, the tune shouldn't affect anything covered. My question is how are you guys getting a Ford Warranty on a 10 year old car?

I just bought my MM from a Ford dealer, and they offered me a 5 yr, 60,000 mile Ford Basecare warranty
