Just picked up a Porter Cable dual action polisher and was wondering what you guys here use to compound and polish your cars.
Any favorite brands/recommendations on backing plates and pads?
What products do you use?

Menzerna Intensive Polish and Menzerna Final Polish should do just about anything you need
ALthough there is nothing wrong with Meg's 105-205 combo either. I just prefer Menzerna.
Get a good assortment of pads,
Tape of your hood in 2 to 4 sections, use varied pads and polish combos until you find the combo that works best for you and your pain condition.
Lake Country pads and backing plates.
If your 7424 is not an X model stick with no larger than 5.5" pads.

Exactly what he said.

I'd use the 5.5 pads with a Porter Cable, a flat pad nothing fancy. The Uber pads from Detailers Domain are just fine or something similar. Menzerna makes good products and so does Optimum with better pricing. Don't know where you're located in Michigan, but I'm in 48095. I've got lots of polishes, glazes, sealants and waxes for you to try out before buying. Shoot me a PM if you think I can help.

My personal favorite is ADAMS and they will be at the show doing demos with the Porter Cable
