Well today I started the marauder and when I did, I was sitting down waiting for It to warm up a little then I noticed blue smoke in my rear view mirror...but its weird though cause as far as I know it only makes blue smoke when start up but the rest of the drive was fine...so my question is, why is it producing blue smoke ONLY at start up? Ideas, suggestions, anyone? Thanks in advance!!

Not uncommon. Some MM owners had thier engines replaced due to the same, but I don't think it causes many problems. Mine does it every so often. I believe its because of the oil blow by with these engines??

I should probably have added that I noticed this when I first started adding Lucas oil...maybe that's why?

Change your oil to good stuff like Valvoline synpower 5W30 vs the 5W20 I noticed some startup smoke with some oils but it's gone with the Syn 5W30. Valvetrain is much quieter compared to the Penzoil Platinum 5W30 I ran this winter.
Check your PCV mine was toasted at 70 K miles, it was a PIA with the 04 as you don't get the needed elbow and it is a BEAR to swap over. Now I have gone over 2000 miles and only 1/2 quart low on oil. MUCH better

I use the Mobil1 oil and sorry let me clarify that I use the Lucas injector cleaner..The only thing that goes in the tank is 93 octane (premium) from BP and this...(sorry I was thinking of the wrong Lucas product)

I am a fan of the lucas injector cleaner, seems to make the car run much better, but I only have access to 91 octane so maybe thats why I notice a difference. Either way its not the lucas causing your problems. My first 03, which I bought new, had less than 5k miles on it and smoked for a second at every startup when cold, and I used no lucas then, just Mobil 1. I now use royal purple and seem to have less smoke with this second MM, but I am still using a decent bit of oil per change, about a quart per 2K miles.

Yup. Common issue, especially on early 300a's, but occurs on later cars, too. Mine will puff a lit some occasionally on start up.
What's your oil consumption between changes?

Hhhmmm royal purple eh...:) imma look into that. Thanks!
And oil consumption? Well I put on mobil1 5w-30(oil and oil filter are Mobil1) but the guy before me had a K&N oil filter then I switched to mobil1. And it take a good 5quarts or so.

the guy before me had a K&N oil filter then I switched to mobil1. FYI...K&N and Mobil 1 filters are both made by Champion Laboratories and are identical except for the 1" nut on the end of the can on the K&Ns.

My blue has done this since the day I got it in 2004. Some days it will do it, most days it won't. Some days it's a tiny bit, and some days it looks like my garage is on fire.

All I've got to say is.....make sure you check your oil!!!! (Check my sig.)
Don't ignore the blue smoke or you'll find yourself 4 quarts low with a rattling engine before you know it. Ask me how I know :( My new engine runs great!

That's exactly how mine is n well being a proud new owner, I got worried but it seems to be normal..right?
And about keeping on eye on your oil level, is it true the oil gauge doesn't quite function accurately, its just for show?

Mine does it when I let the car sit for a week or more without starting. Or if you let off the starter too soon and the car doesn't start up right away, when you go to hit it again you can bet there's going to be a puff.
I witnessed brand new Marauders doing it on the lots back in 03, its normal. Mine's never been low on oil though.
And the oil gauge on the console is indeed fake.

Oh ok so its normal I'm guessing nothing to worry for now. And well my question is how could I change the gauges to make them work? Like anyone know a good mechanic or something around the Chicago area?

Mine does it if I get on it hard while I'm driving and then park it and let it sit for a couple of hours, and when I start it smokes pretty good but only for a couple of seconds .since it was new its done this on my 04.

And about keeping on eye on your oil level, is it true the oil gauge doesn't quite function accurately, its just for show? The oil pressure gauge has nothing to do with oil level...you need to use the dipstick for that.
And yes, the factory gauge is a fake. AutoMeter sells a real gauge that's almost identical to the factory one...check their website.

The stock oil gauge is a dummy gauge, when it sees 6 psi or more it reads high. Installing a new real one is not hard.
I switched over to Mobil 1 5W-30 High Mileage and have noticed better gas mileage, smoother running engine and less oil use during my 5,000 mile oil change intervals. Last 5,000 miles I only used a quart of oil, 180k + miles on my stock motor.

oh ok so there is No way of making the OEM gauges to work like They should? Or do you just have too replace them?
And yeah I've been using Mobil1 for a few years now I mean so far I haven't had any problems with it:)
