Hello Everyone,

I am trying to get some ideas for a hidden when parked front plate...and maybe some pictures if anyone has done that...

I have been driving for a while with my front plate off on my MM, because it doesnt have the holder or any holes in the front bumper, and I don't want to ruin one of these expensive bumpers with holes. However the small town city I work in, loves thier tickets for small stuff, so I'm getting pulled over for no front plate...litterally doing nothing else, no aftermarket exhaust, no speeding etc, just for no front plate.

So its come to a time I think I need to get one on there. However I am trying to not drill a plate on and ruin the bumper. I saw one of the other threads mentioned Hide A Plate, which looked so so... I just don't know how it would look when put on. I would like it to be motorized when the car is in gear or running, then hidden when off, but thats not a deal breaker one way or the other. The plate will have to be visible when driving so it will have to be on there most of the time, and I don't want to have to put it on and off manually each time I go somewhere. I also don't want it to look aftermarket.

Thoughts, ideas, pictures??

Thanks

I Velcro-ed my front plate on:

I bought the stock bumper frame and velcroed it with industrial Velcro.

Been good for almost 2 years.

I wonder if you could epoxy on a couple of really strong magnets to the inside of the bumper and then the plate would be held on by the magnets.

I'm thinking maybe something like mikethejackel posted, if I cam find a good place to mount it, then wire it to the ignition maybe so it will come up when I start the car, but hidden otherwise.

My front plate is hidden in the trunk, along with the bracket that was never mounted. :cool4:

T-Prok thats where mine rode for a long time. Apparently that won't work anymore, so I ordered one of the power retractable ones...will see how that goes.

Did you ever put this on yet? I'm interested to see how it looks/works on our cars.

I recieved the power unit, however installation did not work like I planned. I planned to put the plate so that it when in position of the normal holder when up (middle of bumper, about the same height). However due to the supports in the lower air dam part of the bumper being soo close, the plate wont fit between them. So that leaves two options, cut a decent size chunk out of two of the lower supports...which looked eh to me and IMO is worse than drilling the holes as far as bumper damage. Or place the motorized mount under the bottom of the bumper, which places it REALLY low, and in no doubt would get scratched all up if not ripped off.

So it sits in the box, new and uninstalled...if anyone wants to try it I will sell it to them.

I bought the factory bracket from Ford 2 days ago and will probably just cry and install it :( I wonder if painting the plastic gloss black to match the bumper would make it look better...

To bad this fella doesn't remember where he got it. This looks like it would be perfect.

This would be cool as well. You could have your own design put on the sheild/cover.

The first one is pretty much exactly what I got that wont work, as you have to cut the bumper supports in opening to fit the width of a plate between them.

The second one is pretty neat...I wonder which way it looks like when its off.

i fabbed a piece of stainless steel to the size of my plate and drilled mounting holes for plate. then made L shaped bracket to bolt on behind center of grille bottom/ bumper cover top. theres a bracket in there with 2 holes already. then welded 2 braces off back of lic. plate bracket and drilled 2 holes on each brace end. slides around center tooth of chin grille between foglights and bolts to other bracket. can drill multiple holes in L shaped bracket to achieve desired distance or angle off front bumper. Probly a crap expaination but hope u understand!
