This happen to anyone else? I really can't tell where anything has leaked to this area besides maybe the plastic grommet area on the right hand side floor but it seems tight and sealed. When I had my trunk lining out when I installed my amp this was not there which was only a few months ago. The only thing I have had in my trunk that did leak some was a bushel of steamed crabs this past Sunday but I had it sitting in the trunk near the bumper. I'm going to clean it up, prime it and then spray some plasti-dip on top of that to seal it.

Where did you get the crabs? My uncle's place? :D

I've noticed water sometimes in the same spot in my trunk - although it hasn't started to rust YET.

I get mine after going through a car wash.

I think it's from the improper sealing around the rear window. That's been my understanding.

But yes Chris, you're not alone.

I have the same, only to a much lesser extent. It's the low spot in the trunk, and any water you get in there will find its way to that location.

Yet another use for Plasti-dip.

This stuff should get a Nobel Prize. :bows:

Never had my carpet out the trunk, but this makes me want to scope it out now.

I had it out when I was running wires for my amp and wanted to hide stuff and had planned on dynamatting the trunk but it was late at night when I finished and figured I would do it this summer sometime. The only reason why I pulled the carpet out was to scrub the areas where the crab juice or whatever you will call it leaked onto because I still had a smell of seafood in my trunk of it then I saw the rust.

That depends on what needs to be done. Probably around 225 miles/4.5 +/- hrs.

Crap. I've had an MTX Thunder Bass for a couple years. Tired of moving the box around the garage, someday I will install it. And by "I", I mean i'd like to pay someone else to do it while I drink beer and watch.

Hopefully Monday afternoon at latest....gonna get my kids in an hour and will have them all weekend, so chances of doing it soon are slim...

Would creating a couple of 'weep' holes be an alternative to plasti-dip or other fix action?

That's pretty much how Haggis and I installed my chin spoiler, except no one got paid, we both drank and my wife read a book

I had a tiny bit. So I took out all the "carpet" and sprayed it with undercoating, mostly for sound deadening. But I also got a warm fuzzy knowing everything is sealed up. And it looks great.

Don't put any weep holes. You be inviting more rust. If it rusty already, clean up all the rust so the metal is really clean, dry and shiny, paint with some good primer and follow up with a few coats of paint.

I'm going to do mine with POR15.

Yes i just found the same in my trunk. I think the water is coming in at trunk lid by the window. I have see water in the trunk after i run though the car wash, so now i only hand wash.

So, who's going to be the 'man of the hour' (or woman) and come up with a mod to fix the "rear window leaks into trunk" problem? Do we all have rust in our trunk instead of junk in our trunk?

This may sound silly, but what about getting in the trunk and have someone spray water all over the back of the car to see where it's coming in?
(I'm afraid of small spaces; and sometimes CBT :)).

I think some of my Rain-x washer fluid leaked out of the bottle cause I saw a stain on the side of the jug when I was cleaning the trunk out. Got some of it cleaned up, will do more next week. I think I will look into a new trunk lid seal as well hopefully its not an arm and a leg.

That is the best way to check for leaks.

A BWI cab driver at Bob bell ford told me that the water is coming in from the front right passenger side and is going to the back :help:

I have a slight bit of rust in that same area.
I was going to scuff clean and paint with rust stabilizer primer as mentioned^^
