So this will be the 2nd time Ive changed the fluid in 35k but better safe than sorry, but last time I put an econoline van pan with the drain plug, and for the life of me I cant find what amount of fluid I need to replace to get back to proper level.

Im assuming it to be around 5qts.

Anyone remember?

For just a drain & fill, it's slightly under 4 quarts. If you remove the pan and change the filter, it's slightly over 4.

Isn't the econoline pan deeper?

If we're talking about the "U-Haul" pan, no. It's identical to the normal pan except Ford installs a drain plug for you.

I hope the drain plug on those work better than the ones I have used.. For the life of me I can't get any one that I have used to not seep! No bad whatsoever, but wet = annoying. Anyone have GOOD luck? If so, part # please. I've never even seen the U haul pan, but I will in a few weeks when a special guest will be arriving from a couple states away for a Jmod! He'll probably drink all my beer, smoke all my smokes, borrow my woman, and pillage my fridge, but he's worth it. :D

Use a gasket and or teflon tape.

The ones I have used use a plastic gasket. I think the next time I will use a copper one so I can really tighten it down. The plastic gaskets want to squeeze out if too snug. The design seems good, I just think the plastic needs to go. The plug part holds fine, just not the mounting nut.

Not a drop from the U-Haul pan on The Blackbird. It's just like a conventional drain plug on an oil pan.

The 2-piece ones from B&M have a reputation for leaking, but I followed their caution about only torquing the mounting nut to 25 ft/lbs and no leaks from the one on Phoebe.

Curious now, what is the design of the uhaul plug? Like a oil pan design bolt and welded nut? I was very carefull of the torque because of seeing Joe's seepage.

That is exactly what happened to me. I went to Ace and picked up replacement gaskets. No leaky.

Well did my drain and fill, man that drain plug on the trans pan is sooooo much nicer. Getting the trans dipstick out of a trilogy marauder is quite fun though.

couple of pic.

got just a hair over 4qts out
