We purchased another Cobra a few months ago and it came with a factory catback with magnaflow 14" mufflers welded in. I already had a full Magnaflow catback in the garage so that obviously went on in its place.
Cut the mufflers out of the old hardware and saved them till the right time. Cue...yesterday.
First off. Dear Ford. You are god damn liars for saying your exhaust is 2.25" It might be like that in 2-3 places but the H-pipe is 2".
This required me to use an adapter from 2-2.25 then 2.25-2.50 on another spacer I had to weld on to the side of each muffler because they were cut back so far to remove them from the other setup. I'll get pics soon.
Well after 10 welds, and multiple tacking and removing of the H-pipe. I finished up and no leaks. Thank you baby Jesus.
So, straight through 2.5" mufflers only 14" long. The car is QUIETER than the factory mufflers and with likely 4x the flow. The exhaust sound is deeper, smoother, and not as raspy. Took the wife for a ride and she mucho approves too. I use the car for Real Estate and taking clients around. I had a bit of worry of excessive noise. Nada.... I also did notice the car has more mid-top end feel to it. Full throttle its really not any louder either. So as Jason would say, DBAP. Want more power and better tone. These are the ticket.
Exhaust step is this.
Factory Manifolds
Rear cats deleted
2.5 Magnaflows
Resonator delete tips (factory installed)
I have a friend that has some 03 manifolds he's donating so I will hold onto them for when I get ambitious again. I have an 03 Cobra stock H-pipe with the rear cats gone sitting around so maybe I'll do that next. At least that is a TRUE 2.25 not this weak sauce 2".
P.S. I love welding and mainly did it for something to weld.
Edit: here are before/after video's
You can see how I had to weld on new inlet/outlets for the mufflers.
