View Full Version : Fuel pump & filter alternatives?

While reading what's been posted on the "how low can you go" thread, I realized it's probably time for me to change my fuel filter.

I searched the forums and found a thread about musclemerc's alternative to the stock fuel filter...but that thread died a year ago. Those of you that went this route, how's it holding up?

Just wondering if there's any alternatives/upgrades out there to the OEM fuel filter & pump and if I should go ahead and replace my fuel pump now? Best price on these parts?

TIA...

both musclemerc and D Rienhart (neither of whom are with us any more) both sell fuel filter upgrades.I think they're 3 inch and try to get rid of the 90 degree bends.

For an NA with minimal mods, the OEM units should be sufficient. FWIW, I'd suggest replacing the filter in-kind, if need be, and leave the pump alone unless it's acting up.

So I see in the mustang mags how they have replacement style drop in hat assembly's that go in the tank are any of those able to be used on our fuel tanks. something like this

Ford ranger fuel pump. I forget the year. More flow and bigger.

Do a search - I bet you'll find it. I got one from Napa forever ago and had no issues.

For an NA with minimal mods, the OEM units should be sufficient. Agreed.

If you want a minimal-cost simple upgrade, get the older-style FG800A filter. You have to modify the bracket slightly, but it's a direct fit with the fuel lines.

I went to my local napa with the fuel line sizes and said "give me the highest flowing filter you have that fits this size line."

He did some searching on his computer and I ended up with a big one for a Volvo. I have a pic somewhere with it alongside the stock pump that I will post if I can find it.

Any Marauder will benefit from the fuel filter mod n/a , or s/c those 90* bends would choke a go cart!

I did the musclemerc upgrade a few weeks ago and I am happy with the results.

I'm currently using a Kinsler filter, Focus SVT fuel pump and a BAP, all have been in for over a year with -0- issues.

Does anybody have flow/filtration specs on the OEM filter?
I am looking to do an upgrade myself and a Billet filter from Jegs or Summit isn't too expensive.
Then a couple of compression to -6an fittings, some good hose and done.
