Would anyone here help me confirm this is the right kit and a reasonable price for 4.10s?

I wouldnt use synthetic gear oil in a new gear install, most shops will tell you to break it in with conventional gear oil.

There's no need to replace the gaskets and stuff if you're just doing gears swap out, correct? Just being the 4:10's to a reputable shop and have them swap them out and replace the fluid

Thanks for the input guys. I realize I could save some $ by just changing gears but I don't mind the extra $ to replace a few other things once we open this up. Thanks again.

A nice upgrade to the diff is the cobra clutches and the S spring from an F-150.
Also friction modifier should be added to the gear oil.

I know this has probably been asked hundreds of times but I couldn't find the answer. My 2003 Marauder Owner's Guide says I need 1.8L (=1.9 quarts) of rear axle lubricant. However, Ford's Pinion and Installation Instruction Sheet (M-4209-8.8, see link) says I need 2.5L (= 2.64 quarts). Is the quantity difference perhaps because the Owner's guide addresses 're-fill' quantity rather than 'fill' quantity? BTW, the Owner's guide also suggests 80W-90 oil but I'll go with 75W140 as indicated in the Pinion Installation Instruction Sheet. http://cdn.lrsstatic.com/downloads/instructions/M420988.pdf

Redline 75W140 at the initial install over 55k miles and no issues.

For the extra couple of bucks why not do it while everything is out??

Ford changed the spec after the MM came out.

I agree fastblackmerc!
Did "most shops" say "convention oil" and no posi additive?
Mobil 1 Synthic does not need posi additive.

Most synthetics including Redline don't need FM.

I know a bunch of the syn gear lubes already have FM. As far as the original topic my cost of gear install:
$99 shipped for Ford 4.10's (ebay)
$175 labor
Minor charge for lube and FM

^^^^^^
I thought I got a good deal...$140 for gear set and $200 for labor. I also had my diff rebuilt, so this may have added to my labor costs. Rebuild kit was $105.
