Does any member here have 4:10's on their MM that they also use as a DD? If so, have you noticed a substansial change in fuel consumption? I plan on getting 4:10's before my tune, but my MM is my DD so I was just wanted some opinions, thanks!

This has been stated here hundreds of times............
I've had my 4.10's in my DD for over 60k miles. You will lose 1-2 mpg. The 4.10's are worth it.

I know it's been stated here numerous times, I just don't know how who drives their MM on a daily basis and is their only means of travel. Thanks for the info fastblackmerc

I've driven mine almost on a daily basis. I have a 60 mile round trip daily with a good mix of city (stop and go) and highway. I only noticed 1-2 mpg. 4.10s will actually help you more in city (stop and go) traffic as it will require less throttle input to get the vehicle moving, flip side is your rpms are slightly 200-300 more when at cruising speed. If you run a larger rear such as a 255/55 that can help balance it out some. I run 265/50 which is just a hair smaller than the stock rear size so my effective rear gear is 4.15.

Alright cool, so that will work out well then because I'm getting a deal on a set of 255/55. Thanks for the info

Drove mine NA with 4:10s as a DD for five years, tracked mileage both before and after the gears were installed. Obviously there was some variance from tank to tank, but the overall change in mpg was just under 1 mile per gallon.
IMO, the improved performance you'll see from going to the taller gears is 110% worth ANY change in mileage you'll see from making the change.
BTW, the cars were originally slated to come with 4.10s but then got fitted with 3.55s because on paper the change in fuel mileage would have impacted CAFE numbers and put the cars into the"gas guzzler" category. Steve Babcock himself has acknowledged that real world results have disproven that assumption.

If I remember correctly I believe having 255/55 will give you an effective rear gear of like 4.04 or close to that. Just make sure you get a tune or load up your 4.10 gear tune once you have them installed.

My experience is that gears and a Lidio tune will cost you about 4mpg around town. I love my Lidio tune, but he leaves the TC unlocked below 60mph or so, and the combination of the gears and tune will cost you about 4mpg around town. On the highway, the difference is only a couple of mpg.

80 mile round trip a day. 4.10's installed. 265's for the rear tires. MPG went down a little, 1-2 mpg. Well worth it.

I'd like to find a place to hook me up with a gear install and J-Mod and then get my tune through Lidio.

Alright sounds good, I plan on ordering the gears soon. Is there anything I need to buy for the J-MOD besides fluid?

Bugsy (MYR) just had his done at a place in Benson, NC...right up I-95 from you...about 40 miles north of the Fayetteville/Pope/Ft. Bragg area. Slickster in Columbia has posted up ?s about 410s, but don't know if he's had them installed yet or where. You can use my guy up here if you want to make an overnight trip out of it...took just over 2 hours to install mine (also had diff rebuilt). I plan on going by his shop today or tomorrow to see if he can do the J-mod.
My city MPG dropped from around 18.5 to high 16s (last fill-up I got 16.98mpg). If I do a considerable amount of driving outside of going back/forth to campus, my mpg drops to mid 16s (the worst I've gotten is 16.3). I haven't made any long-distance trips since the install, so highway MPG is TBD, but I do drive on the interstate when picking up/dropping off my kids and have noticed my RPMs are at 2400/2500 when doing 70-75mph.
I would say add 10% to the cost of a gallon of premium in your area; that's close to what the 'true' cost of gas will be with 410s...

So, whether you have 3.55's or 4.10's, the gas mileage is just terrible? I've never driven a stock gear car, but mine has 4.10's and the gas mileage sucks. I've gotta fill up every 5 days and my commute to work is about 20 miles round trip. I like my car but gas is killing my pockets. I've had 2 v8 cars prior to this one (Impala SS/Grand Prix GXP) and neither one burned that much gas.

The 94-96 Impala SS used 3.08 gears, I believe, and the LT1 was a torque maker..something you need to get 4000 + pounds moving from a dead stop. If memory serves me correctly..The 94-96 LT1 had 260 horse but 330 torque but I am not sure of the powerband curve compared to the Marauder..As info, not praising or bashing either..I like them both.

I for one didn't buy my Marauder for the gas mileage..... just like most of the owners here.
If I wanted better gas mileage I'd have a Prius.....

If you're only getting 200 miles to a tank of gas, you've got issues other than gears causing problems. 200 miles/18 gallons = 11 mpg, I'm getting better than that with mine driving around town with my foot in it most of the time (go a hard time staying out of the boost)... ;)
Before I went S/C, I averaged 16-17 around town and 21-23 on the highway with 4.10s.

FruitPunch gets about 200 miles to a tank, but it all depends on how hard you push down the go peddle.

Contact RoyLPita, if you're in his area he can hook you up with a Mech. who does great work.

I have 4.10's, 265/50 rear tires. Mine is a DD. 70% of my driving is back/forth to work which is 16 mile round trip in town and another 10-15% is other in town driving. My mileage used to be 18, now 14.5. Some of that has to be attributed to more sprited driving since I got the gears :-) Before I got the tune I got 24.5 on a road trip. Haven't had the opportunity since the gear change. I did use a tank with about 40% highway and it was still around 15mpg so I am concerned there is something else going on.

If I'm crusing at sub 70 speeds around town and being gentle on the go-pedal I'll be around 17-19. All freeway at 80-85mph goin to Vegas, 21-22.
My average around town is 280-300 till the light comes on.

A hard week I get 12, an easy week I get 17.5. That's with a tuner and without the 4.10's. Can't wait to get 'em! Of course it doesn't help that my commute is 8 miles and 16 lights one way averaging 40mph with O/D off.

Agreed, I don't think anyone thats owns a marauder got it because it was a gas saver. The fact is, for me anyway, my marauder gets about the same gas mileage as my '96 383 z28. I keep reading that everyone says the difference in mpg's is minute compared to the stock gears, but I know that every 5 days I'm putting gas in this b*tch.

You're correct Rubber. And I'm sure the 3.08 gears in my Impala contributed to better gas mileage, but my Marauder burns gas like it has a damn v12 in it.

The Enmark gas station chain here has a promo every Tuesday...7 cents off/gallon for premium. I haven't missed filling up on Tuesdays except for a handful of times. Ever since I've had my 410s installed, I usually have 1/4 tank left when I fill it up. I've usually driven 225-250 miles from Tues-Tues and 90% of those miles is at speeds less than 65mph. The only time I get at/above 65mph is when I make the 9-mile trek to pick-up/drop off my kids, but not always...sometimes I take another, lower MPH route if traffic is bad. I also live in somewhat mountainous area, so lots of ups and downs as well.
I knew I would take a hit in the wallet for gas when buying this car, but I've driven higher MPG cars for the first 24 years of my life, so the money I saved over those 24 years is waaay more than the extra I'm spending now.
Besides, I should've bought a 'gas-guzzler' back then when the price of gas was less than half as much as it is now. Whenever the price of gas goes up, it affects everyone, not just those with thirsty engines.
Like others have posted on this site...buy a hybrid; I need your gas....

4.10's, DD for 80k miles. Can't speak to the gas mileage. Don't forget the friction modifier.
