Family and I are road tripping right now. 1600 miles under our belt on this trip and I have not seem one Marauder! Where are all of you hiding?
We have been through Nevada, turned up into Idaho and then Montana to visit Yellowstone. Currently running south to Colorado.
After Colorado, running through Utah and Nevada, then finally gonna be home.

You are looking for the proverbial "Needle in a Haystack". I estimate there are only 261 MMs remaining in those 5 states. Total area is 523,983 square miles. MM density is 0.00049 MMs per square mile. Another way to look at it is there is only 1 MM for every 2,007 square miles (about 45 miles by 45 miles). Not real good odds of seeing one.

Now compare this to the CAM area where there are approximately 761 MMs in a 112,516 square mile Five (5) state area plus the District (i.e. VA, MD, DE, PA, NJ, and DC). That's .0065 MM per square mile or one MM for every 164 square miles (about 12.4 miles by 12.4 miles). You are 12-times more likely to see an MM in the east coast CAM area. Yet, even at those increased odds, in 9 years I have rarely seen another MM on the highway unless I was headed to a major MM event somewhere.

Not too many MMs estimated to be located in the states that you are travelling in. Less than 4% of all MMs remaining are located in those 5 states. Maybe a "little" better chance in Colorado. Much better at home in California. See map below.

Nevada (53 MMs)
Idaho (31 MMs)
Montana (20 MMs)
Colorado (101 MMs)
Utah (56 MMs)
TOTAL (261 of 6,555 MMs estimated remaining as of Nov 2010) Even less now.

Here's an estimate of where the MMs went originally and as of November 2010.

THIS IS ONLY AN ESTIMATE BASED ON POPULATION DISTRIBUTION

Here's a little different view of the "By State" estimated distribution of Marauders. Black numbers = Original Distribution of 11,052 MMs. Red numbers = Current estimate of remaining MMs as of November 2010.

The original average works out to be 1 Marauder for every 29,522 people. :D Now the average is about 1 MM for every 49,784 people.

With the exception of California and Texas, the overwhelming majority are likely East of the Mississippi.

How many of the 11,052 are left? I roughtly guess 60 to 70% only?

I'm still trying to get the exact amount of Marouders in Germany. Today a lady from the authority responded to my email and asked for the specific numbers from the auto title... Cross your fingers for me.

I have estimated less than that .... probably closer to 50% as of March 2012.

Very interesting!!!! Rauders are getting rarer by the year.

I'm glad I got mine & plan to pass it down to next generation or another family member.

Anthony you traveling in the DBP?

Nope! The truck. It barely held all the gear for 3 kids and 2 adults. Plus the DPB would not be caught dead on the 4wd roads we have been traveling on or the dirt we have been playing in. The truck is currently a shade of brown and red dirt. The DPB would have liked the high speed roads better than the truck though.

In the 100,000 mile or so I have driven across the country delivering fire trucks, I have seen 2, one in Ohio on I-80 and one in Decatur, AL. I've seen countless Ferraris and Lambos, but hardly any MMs

I've seen two other than mine here in Fort Collins, CO. And one of them had Larime County (Wyoming) plates. I know 101 Marauders in Colorado is just an estimate, but it seems to me a bit optimistic.

I have only seen one in MA , one in RI over 5 years of really looking for them . It's sad to see them get junked with so little damage .
