I was reading about the wacky wipers and I think that's my problem with the wipers not wanting to turn off ( has rained a ton from tropical storm Debby), but the headlights wont turn off either and was wondering, since the wipers wont turn off would that make the headlights stay on?

Yup.

Wipers on = headlights on.

Just went through this myself about two weeks ago. I tried the repair route of taking the motor controller off and cleaning it up, since I'm capable of doing that, but it wasn't successful. Too much junk on the circuit board.

Anyway, I tired a remanufactured unit (Cardone) from Advance Auto. Good price, but poorly done re-man. A new unit lists for about $171.00. I found the best price ($85 plus refundable core charge) from:

http://www.autopartstomorrow.com/part_numbers/344743-new-wiper-motor

They even pay for you to return the core! I had the part in 3 days. Rock Auto wasn't even close.

I hope this helps.

How is the Autopartstomorrow part working?

Hey Jim,

So far, so good. I'm curious why the question? It sounds like you might have gotten burnt one time or another from them? This was a factory part, so, I wouldn't expect undue problems.

I replaced my wacky wiper motor with a new unit from AutoZone for $80-85, I ended up having to swap the stock wiper motor control module from the stock wiper motor over to the new motor and it worked like a charm and still has to this day.

If your headlight switch is left in the AUTO position and your wipers are on for more than 30-40 secs straight at a time the LCM will turn the lights on automatically as a safety feature.

I did see several suppliers have listings for "motor only - no electronics (or controller)." My problem was the electronics, and no one sold that item seperately that I could find. Hence the deal from AutoPartsTomorrow, which included everything for $85.

The one I did get from AutoZone came with a new wiper motor control module, it let the wipers work but when I turned the switch off the wipers would stop on the windshield and not in resting position which made me try the stock WMCM piece on the new motor.

Gotcha....now I remember you mentioning that before, when you went through this exercise. Well, either way, you got screwed out of the electronics. BTW, I'd be willing to bet that you did not get a new motor assembly from Autozone. They only list the remanufactured unit by Cardone Industries. Same from Advanced Auto. I got one to play with, same price as you, but it was done badly. The electronics looked like hell, amongst other items on it, so I didn't waste my time putting it on the car. I went for new at the same price - or at least what Ford calls new.

Never got any parts from them. Wasn't aware it was a factory part..... Typically a factory part is sold outright, no core charge.

would that electronic circuit cleaner that radio shack sells help with cleaning the board?

CRC Electronic Cleaner QD (Quick Dry) is what I use on all electronic stuff, including the MAFS and IAC.

Apparently, the parts really were so perfect, the perfectly went out of business. I checked with an acquaintance at both at Autozone and Advance Auto, and they both tell me that Parts Perfect was primarily an importer who had major bad part return headaches. Autozone learned the hard way by not doing due dilligence, and Advance did theirs and decided not to get involved. I asked the one to check into your part number, but the whole series has been removed from their system, so I couldn't get any more info.

Good point, Jim - and one I thought of too when I went looking. Before ordering, I called them, and they told me that they are able to get a good dollar for the returned old part (probably from Cardone), and therefore can offer the OEM part at a more than competitive price. I was surprised when they told me that they even pay for the return of the item.

Had I bought from my local Ford dude, it was $171 list, discounted to $127, plus 7% tax for a total of $136. From the mail order place it was a net of $87 after my core deposit was refunded - and 3 extra days.

As far as factory parts and core charges go, there are plenty of examples:
- batteries
- transmissions
- certain engines
- powertrain control modules

Anyway, it came in a Ford box with all the right info on and in it. Hopefully, someone did not plagurize it.

Roger that. I did find them too when I was looking, and would have been about 10 bucks net less than the dealer had I decided to go through ebay. A good price otherwise!
