I have been reading here and talking to a shop that was recomended to me by Ludwigvan968 (Joey) and talked South Texas Perfromance and finally made the the choice to do the 4.10 gear swap.
I opted for the rebuild kit even though they said it is not needed. I took the Marauder in yesterday and should be ready today!!:burnout:

Mike,
You are gonna love the difference this makes on your MM!
Ask me how I know.
A local member drove mine the day of my gear swap, and when he went wide open throttle, he yelled.. "Holy shat dude! This feels like a whole different car!"
Let us know your thoughts once you pick it up.

That you will!
Make sure you get the shift schedule and speedo adjusted in your tune after the install.

You will not be disappointed. Finally had 4:10's installed last year. I already had the tune from Lidio so before the test drive I installed it. Wow, what a difference even after running with the 3:55 Lidio tune for a while.

Yup, the car is much more responsive on the low end, the lower gears help get that big 'ol tank moving off the line... ;)

I too have the Lidio tune with 3.55's and 4.10's option....I loved it when I put the tune in for the 3.55's.....I can only imagine with a :D on my face what it will be like now!

Well,
I didnt really get a chance to test it out when I picked up the car yesterday....
I figured I would have a little time to play this morning before work, but again...to many cars on the road....so no thoughts yet....the little I did get on it...I wasnt impressed, but again I didnt really get to mash the go pedal. So I will try this evening on a nice stretch of lonely road by my house.

I would note that the difference in acceleration at-speed is nowhere near as big of a change in feel as the difference in acceleration from a dig. The best way I could describe my first drive with the 4.10 gear set in is to say something between "it felt as though the throttle was more effective for any given input" and "it felt as though the car lost around 150-200lbs off-the-line."

Very true statement ^^^ or simply put "lightfooted" Faster? I guess I ask for too much as I really didn't notice anything all that different from the stock gear to the 4.30 other than quicker, firmer shifts, and around town peppiness. But nothing major. When its hot like this, tire spin isn't really an issue once I get heat soaked anywho.

Ya know, I think people exaggerate when doing mods to justify, in their minds at least, the expenditure of a big wad of cash.
4:10's was the last of the trifecta (CAI, Tune, 4:10s) and I too was raving on how much difference there was in acceleration. There was a significant change to be sure but not as much as the combo of 4:10's and PI3500 stall converter. That put the pretenders in their place.
Mike, don't baby it. Step on the gas at the light and you'll see.
See you next week and you can drive my car.

I am glad you guys chimed in on your thoughts.....I wasnt overly impressed with all the talk about the gear install on here....but I am not dissapointed either.....would I say it was work the big wad of cash thrown at it.....no...not really...if it was a couple of hundred cheaper....maybe.
Heatsoak does add to the problem....with the temps being so high here....100+ outside temps and the engine being much much hotter than what it is used to, the timing is pulled and power is lost...and with that comes the pinging so I cant play too much for fear of detonation. The mechanic said there was not much i could do about it short of getting a dyno tune.
But if heat soak is there, timing will be pulled regardless right?? Anyway...I will let her rest today and take her out tonight to have some fun.
Mike, you are experiencing "pinging"? I thought you had a regular Lideo tune. Shouldn't be any pinging. Mine never did and we have similiar temps.
Are you using 91 or 93 octane or a modified tune?
Last year I had a higher temp gage readings with the A/C on and 103 + temps while in slow traffic. Soon as I could get to street speed 25 MPH + the temp would go down. I now have a 170 degree thermostat and the head cooling mod and all is well, FWIW.

I think expectations/outcome depend on the owner. If you've been a 'motorhead' most of your life, then I can see how going from 355s to 410s may not be that impressive. If you're a guy like me, who's never owned a V-8 or musclecar, the difference is impressive. I do realize that a simple gear swap isn't going to turn my car into a championship-caliber dragster, though. Installing 410s helps this car get off the line/out of the hole a LOT faster than 355s. Isn't this half the battle?
I don't have any reservations about the $450 I spent to have mine installed, considering the fact that I took it to a dealership and was quoted $1400. I'm not in the mindset (yet) of turning my MM into a beast; I'm perfectly content with having a 'sleeper'. Is it the fastest car in my area? No; but I know a lot of people will be surprised at how fast it is.

I have never been a 'motor head'....the first V8 I owned wasnt til my mid 20's and that had a 302....it was a Bronco...so by no means was it fast...
My second V8 I was 27 and it was a 96 CVPI....didnt have it 6 months before I bent a rod in the motor, but it was quick from what I was used to.
I am now on my 3rd and 4th V8...the 3rd being the Marauder, to date the fastest and quickest car I have ever owned and this is the one that I have done the most work to (it was still the fastest and quickest before I did anything to it)....mostly cosmetic...I only had high expectations because of what has been said on the board here. It didnt meet my expectations but it wasnt a bust either.

I'd bet if you were used to 3.55s in the heat, and then drive your car in 50 degree weather with 4.10s, it would be a far more noticeable difference. With all that heat, I'd bet the PCM was yanking out a *****load of timing.
I'm glad you're honest about not really being totally impressed. On CVN, they talk about the JMOD as if it's going to make your car into a tire burning 800HP beast with just drilling some holes, so imagine my lack or being completely impressed when all my car did was shift a little firmer.
Are 4.10s a good mod for you heavy marauder guys? Yea, but gears don't make a car have .1 HP more. That's why gears, with a tune, maybe some UD pulleys, and full exhaust, thats what's really gonna wake up a 4400lb car.

I can't say that 4.10's made my car faster but it made it more fun to drive and gets me out the hole faster. I noticed a difference with a tune and cold air.
Put me beside a stock marauder and I'm pretty sure it will be left behind

But no, I wont go back....dont see any reason to throw money away....Dont get me wrong...there was some improvement....just not what I was expecting, and certainly not for the price I paid, but I did have the entire rear end rebuilt with the exception of the axels.

Does the 4.10 mod turn your MM in to a 10 second car? No.
What it does do is make it more fun to drive. IMHO the most noticible difference is part to 1/2 throttle take offs or kicking it in the butt between 25 & 40mph.
Normal start from stop the car now lunges to take off instead of lugging to start. This pushes you back in the seat harder and produces the :D:D:D - love the G's.
WOT starts from stop are better but not the "impressive" aspect of the mod.
After a normal start & get up to 25/30 then kick it = wow! If doing this on a curve can produce breaking rear tires loose and som F-U-N! :burnout:

When I went 3.73's it was a nice difference for me. I think a high stall would be a fun upgrade for you.
Anyway, you have to remember like others said gears are part of a package. They do cost a lot of money but I think they are worth it. I spent a good amount with I did mine.

Sounds like your clutches were already toast or very near to being toasted.... installing 4.10's didn't toast the clutches....

I don't understand why some think having 410s installed is 'expensive'. The ring-n-pinion set can be had for less than $200 and labor costs to install it will be around $200...less than $400 for the whole ball game.
What other performance mod can be done for that cheap? Not trying to start a war...just curious...

In regards to the 3.73's, you found there to be a decent noticeable difference over stock?
I would be concerned over gas mileage and overall daily drive-ability with 4.10's.
Are 3.91's available for MM? Does anyone on here run them?

He's running a GM, so the original gears weren't 3.55s.
Virtually everyone who's installed 4.10s sees between 0.5 and maybe 2.0 mpg difference from the 3.55s. Alot of it depends on your driving style, but limited impact no matter what. FWIW, if you're driving a MM for mileage capability, you may wanna consider trading it in for a different vehicle... ;) Overall responsiveness with 4.10s will improve, especially on the low end; at 75 mph you'll be running about 2,400 rpm in O/D, that's only maybe 200 rpm difference than the 3.55s.
If 3.91s are available for the 8.8 rearend, I'm not aware of any MMs running them. Difference between those and 4.10s would be virtually nil, IMO.
Just do it, and don't look back, the two best mods you can do to a stock MM are 4.10 gears and a tune from either Marty-o or Lidio.

I had the same experience as Pat. Did the JLT first, then 4.10s, then the Lidio tune. If I had it to do over again, and I do, I wouldn't put the 4.10s in.
I can certainly feel the difference, but I like to spend a lot of time with that car on the highway, and the 3.55s are better for that.
My 04 is all stock, and now that I'm down in the Houston area and running around town, I also like the factory shift/TC lockup schedule better. Out in the country it didn't matter so much.
The Lidio tune was the best performance bang for the buck, but the JLT was the best entertainment value. Love that noise!
